I. Reading
The Great Exhibition of 1851 in London was aimed to symbolize industrial, military and economic superiority of Great Britain as the leader of industrial revolution. During the reign of Queen Victoria many people felt secure, economically and politically, because Britain became a powerful state at that time.

The Great Exhibition was held in Hyde Park in London in the specially constructed Crystal Palace. More than 6,200,000 visited the exhibition and over 13,000 exhibits from all parts of the world, including India, Australia, New Zealand, were displayed.

Millions of visitors were greatly impressed by the exhibits which became the results of the Industrial Revolution.

The profit from the event was spent for the foundation of public works such as the Albert Hall, the Science Museum, the National History Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Dear Alex,
I am glad that you are coming to Ukraine in June. I'll be at home at this time so I'd be glad to spend a few days with you.
I think that the first city you need to visit is Kyiv, our capital. It is more than 1500 years old. Kyiv is famous for its cathedrals, churches, art galleries and museums. There are a lot of new entertainment centres - so we won't be bored there.
What kind of museums do you fancy going?

III. Speaking
Art is essential to learning, not just as an educational drill. Learning about different forms of art gives us a window to the rich and interesting world. It teaches us about our own history and culture, as well as that of other people. Art cultivates self-expression, imagination, and creativity as well as critical-thinking and problem solving skills. Art enhances our cultural appreciation and awareness. It gives us a better understanding of the surrounding world.

I have always been enchanted by beautiful poems and songs. So literature is my passion. My favourite British writer is Robert Burns.

Robert Burns (January 25, 1759 - July 21, 1796) is the Scotland's favourite son. He was a poet and a lyricist.

The poet was born in Ayre, and was the eldest of the seven children in a family. He had little regular schooling, and got much of his education from his father, who taught his children reading, writing, arithmetic, geography, and history.

Robert Burns is regarded as a pioneer of the Romantic Movement in literature. Burns expressed his emotions of love, friendship, or amusement or his ironical contemplation of the social scene in his poems.

As well as making original compositions, Burns also collected folk songs from across Scotland. He often revised or adopted them. His poem (and song) Auld Lang Syne is often sung at Hogmanay (New Year). Some other poems and songs by R. Burns that remain well-known across the world today, include A Red, Red Rose, My Heart's in the Highlands and many others.

I like his poems for the sincerity and love for the author's native land. His poems are about the beauty of nature and the most sacred things in the life of every person. In his fine poetry the writer showed the strength of his unique genius. There is no doubt that Robert Burns is the greatest songwriter Great Britain has ever produced.
