The Profession of Veterinary Doctor

Veterinary occupation is one of the most important occupations among the other agricultural professions. Academician Pavlov wrote: “Medical doctors treat people, veterinary doctors treat the whole of mankind”. Constantly fighting infectious diseases common to men and animals veterinary doctors protect people from such dangerous diseases as anthrax, leucosis, glanders, rabies, brucellosis, foot-and-mouth disease and many others.

Veterinary occupation has its history. From ancient tines people tried to treat domesticated animals. Scientists suppose, for example, that he origin of the word “veterinary” is connected with the Latin word “veterina” which means “draught animals” and a veterinarian was a person who took care of the livestock and treated it from diseases.

The job of a vet is many-sided and responsible. Many graduates work in laboratories, in veterinary stations, at special research institutes, in transport offices, in trading organizations, in markets, in dairies, cold stores, at meat-packing plants as well as in the Zoo and in the circus. But no matter where the veterinarian works his main task is to prevent diseases.

In order to prevent animal diseases the veterinary doctors must take strict preventive measures.

The veterinarian examines the animals in good time and makes the correct diagnosis. For diagnostic purposes there are modern instruments and techniques. Veterinary doctors also control water and places of watering, the animal houses and the territory.

The Profession of Commodity Expert

There comes the time when we start thinking about our future. After finishing school we prepare for the entrance examinations at some institutes or universities. We must choose a profession that is really close to our hearts and interests.

A couple of years ago I was going to become a teacher. I thought it was a very noble profession, besides I always wanted to work with people. To my mind it was very important to bring up good children. I knew that it was very difficult to become a good teacher. I understood that the teacher had to be well-educated and well informed. That's why I read a lot and I also did my best to get only good marks.

But one day I realized that I couldn't be good at this profession. Luckily it was not late to choose another occupation. I was always keen on animals, so I decided to choose a job connected with domestic animals.

That's why this year I entered the Omsk Veterinary Training Institute and to become a commodity expert. In five years I will be a commodity expert in the field of animal production. My profession demands me to be responsible and reasonable, honest and prudent. I'm going to work both with people and animals, so my dreams will come true. Man depends heavily upon animals because they provide us with food and clothes. Animal diseases can cause human diseases. That is why it is extremely important to control the quality of animal production. Every commodity expert can be proud to be a member of this distinquished profession.
