Day 1. London to St. Petersburg. Fly direct with British Airways from Gatwick or via Copenhagen from Heathrow with Scandinavian Airlines. Drive to the Viking Kirov and embark. Welcome dinner.
Day 2. St. Petersburg. Morning city sightseeing tour, driving past many of its imperial and aristocratic palaces including the great Baroque complex of Smolny Convent and Institute, the Peter and Paul Fortress and the Cathedral of St. Isaacs. Afternoon free. Evening musical performance.
Day 3. St. Petersburg. A day free to explore St. Petersburg individually or join one of the optional tours.
Day 4. St. Petersburg. Visit the Hermitage Museum to view some of the world famous collection of European art. After lunch drive out to Peterhof, the palace built by Peter the Great. Sail in the evening.
Day 5. Cruising. Sail down the River Neva and past the forested banks of the Svir River to Lake Ladoga.
Day 6. Kizhi. This tiny island is located at the northern end of Lake Onega and is renowned for its open-air Museum of Architecture. The Transfiguration Church with 22 domes, is the ultimate in Russian fairy-tale architecture. Sail in the late morning across the lake and then navigate a series of canals and rivers to the White Lake.
Day 7. Goritsy. Cross the White Lake to the town of Goritsy. From here it is a short drive to the Monastery of St. Cyril of the White Lake. The history of the site dates back to the end of the 14th century.
Day 8. Yaroslavl. An important Volga port with a population of 600,000, Yaroslavl was founded in the 11th Century by Prince Yaroslav the Wise and today retains much its colorful past. See the Church of Elijah the Prophet, the magnificent 13th Century Spassky Monastery as well as the remnants of an ancient trading centre in Market Street. Sail during lunch. Afternoon cruising.
Day 9. Uglich. Morning visit to Uglich. Founded in 1148, this is one of the most beloved towns in Old Russia. Our sightseeing program will include a visit to the Cathedral of Our Saviour's Transfiguration.
Day 10. Moscow. Arrive during lunch. A city tour include Red Square and the colorful, multi-domed St. Basil's Cathedral. Evening visit to the Moscow Circus.
Day 11. Moscow. Morning walking tour of the Kremlin. Within the walls of the Kremlin see three cathedrals and the fascinating Armoury Museum with its fine collection of imperial regalia arms and carriages. Afternoon free with a choice of optional tours.
Day 12. Moscow. Day free for individual sightseeing and / or join an optional tour.
Day 13. Moscow to London. Disembark after breakfast. Fly home directly to Heathrow with British Airways or via Copenhagen to Heathrow with Scandinavian Airlines.
Price includes: Economy class scheduled air travel, accommodation on board the Viking Kirov on full board, talks on board, excursions, entrance fees, cruise director, local guides, transfers, port taxes, airport taxes, UK departure tax.
