ace an exam — блестяще сдавать экзамен I think I aced the History test.

A-F — шкала баллов от А (= 5) до F{= 0)

an A level (Advanced Level Examination) — during the two voluntary years of schooling, pupils in the UK specialize in two or three subjects and take the General Certificate of Education (always known simply as 'GCE') Advanced Level, or 'A level' examination, usually with a view to entry to a university or other college of higher education

ask for a make-up exam/test — просить об индивидуальной сдаче эк­замена/написании контрольной работы по причине болезни или чрезвычайных обстоятельств

magna cum laude (= with high praise) — вторая степень отличия

pass/credit — зачет

quiz — контрольная/самостоятельная работа (Ср. surprise/pop quiz — проверочная работа «без предупреждения».)

3) He likes giving pop quizzes, to see if the kids are remembering anything.

receive one's bachelor's degree with honours — получить диплом бака­лавра с отличием (ср. «с красным дипломом»)

SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) — the SAT is given only in English and mathematics, a test of ability, not knowledge. In other subjects "Achievement" tests are given. The SAT in math and English is re­quired by most colleges and universities of seniors in high schools when they apply to colleges, but there is now a movement in the US to change these tests. So far, though, they are still the norm. The students are reported to have had high scores on the SAT exami­nations.
