A real rip-off, ripped us off – made us pay much too much; very informal. – обдираловка.

Rise and shine – a command to someone to get up, often said to someone who doesn't want to and at a very early hour – вставать.

Have a nap – a short sleep – дремать.

Freshen up – wash and tidy oneself. – освежиться.

Be ready to crash out – be very tired/ready to sleep almost anywhere.

Put our feet up – relax – бездельничать.

Watch the box – watch television. – смотреть TV.

Don't count your chickens before they're hatched. -Don't anticipate the future too much. – Цыплят по осени считают.

Don't put all your eggs in one basket. - Don't invest all your efforts or attention in just one thing. – поставить все на карту, рисковать всем.

Never judge a book by its cover. - Don't judge people/things by their outward appearance. – не стоит судить о другом человеке по его внешности.

Never look a gift horse in the mouth. - Never refuse good fortune when it is there in front of you. – дареному коню в зубы не смотрят.

Take care of the pence and the pounds will take care of themselves. - Take care of small sums of money and they will become large sums. – копейка рубль бережет.

When the cat's away, the mice will play – people will take advantage of someone else's absence to behave more freely. – кот из дома, мыши в пляс.

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink – you can try to persuade someone, but you can't force them. – не всего можно добиться силой.

One swallow doesn't make a summer – one positive sign does not mean all will be well. – одна ласточка весны не делает.

There's no smoke without fire – rumours based on some degree of truth. – нет дыма без огня.

Too many cooks spoil the broth – too many are usually people interfering is a bad way of doing things. – у семи нянек дитя без глазу.

People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones – don't criticise others' faults if you suffer from them yourself. – живущий в стеклянном доме не должен бросать в других камни, не следует осуждать других тому, кто сам не безупречен.

Many hands make light work – a lot of people helping makes a job easier. – когда много рук работа спориться.
