The meeting of explorers, rovers and young scout leaders of Russia in 2014 in Karelia

Informational letter №1

 

Dear participants!

The meeting starts soon and we are ready to give you some additional information.

А. The hare – “By the path of Bear Grylls” – the program prepares the scouts to the autonomic survival in the wild Karelian taiga. It includes a big forest game with the survival elements. Before the game the trainings about security and first aid in the wild will be organized.Having the minimum of equipment the participants (in pairs) have to follow the special route, fulfill the tasks and stay unnoticed. For participants over 16 years old. The selection will be organized directly before the trial.

 

Required skills: Scout programs ”First Aid” and ”Extreme situations” or similar programs are fulfilled. The participant should be able to make a campfire in wet conditions, use map and compass properly. The examination of these skills will be led before the trial. The maximum amount of participants: 16 persons. Gender: any.

Required equipment: hiking clothes, headwear, scout kerchief for every participant.

For every pair: a cell phone with a good accumulator (with a capacity for at least 6 days), sleeping bags, matches, lighter, first aid kit, knife, compass, camera with batteries, water bottle with at least 5 liters of water, flashlight, whistle, wristwatch.

B. The moose – “Forest firefighting” – Federal program “The forest patrol” is being organized together with The Federal Agency of Forestry. The program covers finding the forest fires, preventing their distribution, using special equipment, observation of the areas. During the program scouts will try how to work in firefighter team.

 

 

”Annually in Russia burns over 2.8 million hectares of forest. We can not stay aside. Join the program ”Forest patrol” and you can not only get trained but will possibly prevent a real forest fire and save the treasure and property of our country - woods. Scouts, nature needs your help!”

C. The beaver – “Hiking guide” – the program prepares scouts to plan, organize and lead the hikes. The program includes information about Karelian local history and specifics and such topics as “Evening events in the hikes”, “Making field sauna in the hike”, “Defense of the hike” (for categorized hikes), “Preparing the documents for the hike”, “Safety measures in hike”, “First-aid kit”, “Premedical help”

D. The Wolf – ”Searching of the injured person in the woods”. This is a part of the program ”Young rescuer”, which is being realized together with The Rescuer Service of the Republic of Karelia. The program objectives are: searching of the injured people in the wood, providing them with pre-doctoral care; determination of the most probable places of the injured persons’ localization; transportation of the injured person and overcoming the natural obstacles.

E. The Wild Pig – ”The course of patrol leaders and the scout instructors of NORS”

The course is being organized on the basis of the model patrol leader course with the additional themes from the scout troop leader course (preparation to the leading of scout troop). The course includes two levels (1 – the patrol leader; 2 – the scout troop leader). Bonus part – training and communication course, special skills. Everyday practice in scout camp will be organized. Also during the course participants will learn how to organize city, regional and republic scout events. The practical test after the course includes leading the three-day-hike for the patrol.

Requrements: Having the confirmed basic scout skills, patrol course.
