Dear New Student!

Congratulations on your acceptance to the UPC (Foundation) Program at Nazarbayev University and welcome to an exciting time of personal growth and a search for maturity and self-identity! You should be very proud of yourself. You have been chosen from a large group of applicants in a highly competitive review process.

Whether you are coming from near or far, NU student community will make sure that we can ease any worries that you may have, and make sure that your university experience will be unforgettable and rewarding!

The NU campus community is preparing for your arrival, and we are excited to have you join a big team of i-leaders (intellectual leaders) here at NU. We are confident that you will do well in NU’s positive learning environment.

To make certain that you get the best possible start, please be advised of the following important information before your arrival at NU:

1. To make the registration process easier all new students are divided into four groups.

YOU ARE IN GROUP A1.

2. You must arrive at the university on 17^th SEPTEMBER 2014 at 9:00 for your registration and dormitory (housing) assignment.

ü ORIENTATION SESSION will take place on the 19 September 2014 (Attachment 1. Registration & Orientation Sessions Program)

ü KAZAKH TEST will take place on the 20 September 2014

ü UPC INDUCTION WEEK will start on the 22 – 26 September 2014

All sessions and test are MANDATORY.

You will be provided with a Welcome package including Student Handbook, Orientation Session & UPC Induction Week programs.

3. Please be aware that for registration all new students are required to submit:

ü Your ID and its three copies (both sides)

ü Official document of the secondary, technical or post-secondary education

ü Medical forms 063 original (privivochnaya karta / passport) and 086 original (if earlier you submitted copy)

ü Military enlistment certificate (pripisnoye svidetel'stvo)with check-out stamp (for males only). Make the check-out right before your departure to the university cause you have only 7 days to be re-registered in Astana military dept. (voenkomat). Please remember, do not change your residential registration (propiska)

ü If you are Astana resident, do not change a registration in your military enlistment certificate – just submit the document upon you arrival at the University

ü Address Reference (adresnaya spravka) issued by the Population Service Centers

ü Certificate of Employment (spravka s mesta raboty) from each parent, or legal guardian, issued by the Human Resource department.

ü Notarized copies of documents (for one of the socially-vulnerable categories: orphans / students who lost one parent / students with disabilities / students, whose parents have physical or mental disabilities / students from big families with four and more kinds with age under 18 / students from low income families)

ü To apply for ISIC banking card, please open attached ISIC forms, print, fill out and submit upon your arrival. Further, you need ISIC card to get a monthly stipend.

ü 3000 KZT laundry fee (to be paid upon your arrival)

ü And sign a contract for study at NU (upon your arrival).

4. Please note important info concerning the dormitory:

ü Parents and relatives can visit but are not allowed to stay in the dormitory

ü Students can choose their roommates and form a group consisting of 4 persons to be accommodated in a room. In case of not having a group of 4 roommates a student will be accommodated randomly. Please send names & surnames back to Campus Manager [e-mail] as soon as possible to make a reservation for your room.

ü Students from the city of Astana can be placed at the dormitory if space available (please contact the Department of Student Affairs upon your arrival and bring your Address Reference (adresnaya spravka) – residents from distant places of Astana will be given a preference).

5. If a student is under 18 years old at the moment of signing a contract he/she needs to have a notarized consent from a parent or both parents, adoptive parents or guardians according to the Attachment 2.

(In cases where parents, adoptive parents or guardians are present, the consent can be signed without notarized approval according to the Attachment 1, but the same time parents, adoptive parents or guardians should have their original ID document).

Before you sign the Agreement you must read and understand the Student Code of Conduct and the Dormitory Rules by your signature you are confirming that you have read these policies and rules, and will follow them while you are here at Nazarbayev University. These documents and other NU’ internal documents regulating academic activities and student life are kept on open access in the Dorm and Library.
