Nationality and age of population

Introduction

Air traffic demand is influenced by many market factors in general for all aviation market or market segments. It is also defined locally, and the demand is influenced by many socio-economic factors. In this report we will discuss the socioeconomic situation in the region of Rzeszow airport – Podkarpackie region. Podkarpackie region is the biggest part of the catchment area of the airport, most of the customers live here or have some interests in the region and reason to travel here/from here. The reasons to travel may be caused by various things – job, business, education, to visit relatives etc.

We defined the four basic segments of socio-economical situation: population analysis, education analysis, geographical position analysis and the political situation analysis. Basing on the detailed analysis of the Podkarpackie region and the analysis of the real traffic demand of the airport, its market position etc., we will define the main factors determining the air traffic demand for Rzeszow airport

Population analysis

Employment

In Podkarpackie live 2 128 921 people. In the October 2012 employment (in the corporate sector) was equal to 229,0 thousands people. It is less in comparison with previous October by 1%. The employment rate decreased (compared to 2011) in most sections (e.g. in accommodation and gastronomy by 11,6%). Although in transport it rapidly grown (by 5,2%).

What is worth to add, Podkarpackie is known as ‘Aviation valley’. There are many companies related to aviation which employed many people (10 times higher compared to whole Poland). Most important of them are

· PZL Mielec, which produces different kind of aircraft (passenger, cargo, training, patrol etc)

· WSK Rzeszów, which produces parts and engines to the aircraft

Last month the number of registered unemployed was 142,9 thousand people. It is 3,9% higher than in 2011 (5,4 thousand). The unemployment rate is now 15,2% (in Poland: 12,5%).

Salaries

Although the total number of employed people decreased, the salaries grown.

The average gross monthly income in enterprise sector is 3042,15 zł and it is 2,1% higher than last year and 3513,82 zł (2,6% higher compared in 2011) in public sector.

Based on report from Main Statistical Office (2011), in Podkarpackie live such nationalities:

· Ukrainian (4,4 thousand)

· German (1,9 thousand)

· Belarusian (0,5 thousand)

· Lithuanian (0,5 thousand)

· English (8,2 thousand)

· Russian (2,1 thousand)

Age structure

The largest group of people are these able to work (18-59 years). Both in Poland and in Podkarpacklie the society is ‘getting older’. It means that there are less people in age 0-17 and more above 60. The estimations in % made by Main Statistical Office in Warsaw looks as follows:
