Данное учебно-методическое пособие затрагивает все сферы изучения английского языка: аудирование, работа с текстами, перевод, грамматические упражнения и методические рекомендации по их выполнению, письмо, говорение. Оно включает также диалоги и упражнения, направленные на ознакомление, усвоение и дальнейшее использование лексики в устной речи. Кроме того, представлены задания на усвоение культуры письменной речи – упражнения на отработку навыков грамотного письма (орфография и грамматика). Вариативность упражнений обеспечивает практику для развития устной и письменной форм иноязычного общения, а также аудитивных навыков.
Целью пособия является развитие навыков и умений коммуникативной деятельности студентов.
Пособие предназначено для студентов 1 курса неязыковых специальностей технических и гуманитарных вузов.

My biography
Let me introduce myself. My name is Helen. I'm Russian. I was born on the 11th of September 1993 in Izhevsk. I'm single. I'm not the only child in my family. I live together with my parents. My family is large, it consists of five members: my father, my mother, my brother, my sister and me.
My father is a doctor, he works at a hospital as a surgeon. My mother doesn't work, she is a housewife. She has much work to do about the house. My brother Oleg is 9 years old. He is a pupil, he studies at school. My elder sister Ann is 21. She is married and has a son Nick. My nephew is 7 months and I want to have a niece, too.
Last year I finished school. I passed exams successfully and entered Izhevsk State Technical University (ISTU). My favourite subject is English. Now I am studying at the Institute of Physical Culture and Sport. I've got the first category in volleyball and have a lot of friends among sportsmen.
I'm happy to be a first-year student. My dream is to become a volleyball coach.

Ex.6 A. Read some facts from the biography of one of the famous basketball players Allen Iverson:
Allen Iverson is a big star. He was born on the 7th of June 1975. He is one of the best basketball players in the USA. Lots of people say that Allen is like Michael Jordan. He is very fast and he often scores more than 30 points in a game. He plays for the Philadelphia 76ers. He has many awards, and his favourite is the Most Valuable Player award for 2000 – 2001. He is the shortest player ever to receive this award. His shirt number is 3.
Allen is an excellent American football player. He has some school awards for football. He also loves music and he has a rap album called «Slow Motion». His hobbies are drawing and watching films. His favourite actor is Samuel Jackson. Allen has the nickname “the Answer”.
Allen is married and he has got a daughter called Tiurara and a son called Allen Junior. Allen's family is very important to him. He has tattoos of his children's names and his mum's initials. His family always go to watch him play basketball. His mum holds a sign that says, "That's my boy!"
