Prestigious new wildlife photography competition gives animals the last laugh
Celebrity judges including Kate Humble, Hugh Dennis and Will Travers OBE of the Born Free Foundation are on board for the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards 2015 Entries are now open for the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards, an exciting new photography competition which encourages amateur and professional snappers to explore nature’s humorous side, alongside its beauty. Launched this summer, this exciting new competition is looking for entries which combine the best in technical excellence with the most amusing content and caption. The stunning images submitted so far capture animals ranging from leopards to lorikeets, from hyena to hippo, all beautifully photographed, with perfect comedy timing and a strong conservation message. Paul Joynson-Hicks MBE, the competition’s founder and Chair of Judges, says, “I am a wildlife photographer myself and am deeply passionate about taking pictures of all sorts of wild creatures. I am also hugely passionate about conserving our wild environments which is why it’s so important to make sure that when we are taking pictures we are also taking care of the creatures we are photographing. We are very excited to be partnering with the Born Free Foundation to enable us all to have an opportunity to make a difference.” Along with international wildlife charity, the Born Free Foundation, the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards are also being run in conjunction with Nomad Tanzania, Natural High, and Nikon UK. In addtion to celebrity judges Kate Humble, Hugh Dennis and Will Travers, the judging pannel will also include esteemed photographers Tom Sullam and Will Burrard-Lucas. Will Travers OBE, who is founder and President of Born Free, said: “ At Born Free, the stories we hear about wildlife are, all too often, filled with gloom and suffering. So it is wonderful – for a change – to consider the naturally humorous side of nature. Baby elephants playing; lion cubs pulling their father’s tail; wild chimpanzees enjoying a game of rough and tumble – I have seen them all and they never fail to bring a smile to my face. Judging the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards is going to be a lot of fun, and there is still time to send in the photos that give you ‘laughter lines’ before the closing date on October the 1st. So what are you waiting for!” Fellow judge, and television wildlife expert, Kate Humble, said: “Watching wildlife is always fascinating, often surprising and sometimes incredibly funny. The Comedy Wildlife Photo Awards will not only celebrate the funny side of the natural world but also remind us of the wonderful diversity of creatures that we share our planet with and how important it is that we protect them.” The overall winner will receive a one week’s photographic safari holiday consisting of three nights at Kigelia Ruaha and four nights at Sand Rivers Selous in Southern Tanzania for two people courtesy of Nomad Tanzania and a NIKON D750 with 24-85mm lens. The photographer selected for second place will receive a Nikon1 AW1 kit, and third place, a Nikon Coolpix P900. Paul concludes: “We are looking for funny, creative, dynamic and interesting wildlife photographs, as well as of course, being technically proficient! And don’t forget the caption makes it funnier!” For more information about the competition, including how to enter, visit: www.comedywildlifephoto.com COMPETITION DEADLINE 1ST OCTOBER 2015 Ends Photographs: © The Photographer / The Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards For press enquiries please contact Paul Joynson-Hicks MBE on info@comedywildlifephoto.com Or Mob +255754333007
