1. A construction foreman is the worker who is in charge of a construction crew. Normally the foreman is a construction worker with many years of experience in a particular trade who is charged with organizing the overall construction of a particular project. Typically the foreman is a person with specialist knowledge of a given trade who has moved into the position. A foreman may train employees, ensure appropriate use of equipment by employees, communicate progress on the project, maintain the employee schedule, arrange for materials to be at the construction site and evaluate plans for each construction job.

2. Cement masons, concrete finishers, and terrazzo workers all work with concrete, one of the most common and durable materials used in construction. They place and finish concrete, color concrete surfaces, expose aggregate (small stones) in walls and sidewalks, or fabricate concrete beams, columns, and panels. Terrazzo workers create attractive walkways, floors, patios, and panels by exposing marble chips and other fine aggregates on the surface of finished concrete.

3. Sheet metal workers make, install, and maintain heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems, roofs, siding, rain gutters, downspouts, skylights, outdoor signs and many other products made from metal sheets. They also may work with fiberglass and plastic materials. Frequently, workers specialize in fabrication, installation, or maintenance. Sheet metal workers do both construction-related work and mass production of sheet metal products in manufacturing. They cut, drill, and form parts with computer-controlled saws, lasers, shears, and presses.

4. Glaziers are responsible for selecting, cutting, installing, replacing, and removing all types of glass. They replace glass in windows, install glass mirrors, shower doors. On commercial interior projects, glaziers install items such as decorative room dividers or security windows, replace storefront windows for establishments. They also may work with plastics, granite, marble, and other glass substitutes and with films or laminates that improve the durability or safety of the glass.
