A workplane is an entity with no geometry used for reference as you construct your model. It is an infinitely thin plane, which resides in the model and is defined by certain conditions that the user specifies. When you draw 2D objects in ADEM, they always appear in the current workplane. When you start a new project, the workplane lies in the XY plane of the absolute coordinate system.
The workplane is displayed as a two-dimensional array of lines similar to graph paper. You will notice the display of the workplanes is just to the extents of the model, even though the plane extends infinitely in all directions. You can toggle the display of the workplane using the Display Mode command.
ADEM provides you with a range of commands that enable you to define the exact location and orientation of the workplane in space. You can align the workplane with one of the base planes of the absolute coordinate system, rotate the workplane by the specified angle about the selected axis, move the workplane along the Z axis, align the workplane with the selected face or edge, etc. The workplane definition commands are located on the Workplane toolbar.
