I. 1. Why was that Sunday morning a special day in the Smallwood family?

b) 1. Father said quietly: “… but I think she must have been dreaming.” Comment on the sentence. What made Father say that?

2. How many people went on the trip that time?

3. How did each of them get to the boatyard?

4. How were all of them dressed?

5. What was the weather like during their trip?

IV. Make up dialogues:

1. David and Sally discuss their plans for the next weekend.

2. Sally and Mr. Smallwood discuss the way David and Sally spend their weekend.

 

X. TRIP TO LONDON

I. 1. Why didn’t the children like to visit the most famous places of interest in London?

2. What places did they visit instead?

3. Whom did they have to look for all the time?

II. a) Listen to the tape, find sentences with the following word combinations and use them in situations based on the texts (Your situations may be given in indirect speech): to look like an angel, to arrive at, to spread over, to make faces at somebody, wouldn’t move, to go for lunch, to be drowned, to have free rides;

b) 1. What placesof interest in London did the Vicar of St. Mark’s Church suggest the boys should visit? Were the children enthusiastic about those places of interest?

2. Who suggested that they should do something different? What kind of boy was Paul?

3. Where did the boys go first? What other places of interest did they visit?

4. What made the Vicar say: “Thank goodness the little angels have only one trip a year!”

IV. Make up dialogues between:

1. The vicar and Paul’s parents

2. The vicar and his sister

3. One of the boys from the choir and his mother.
