The statue of Liberty in New York is a huge statue of a woman holding a tablet in her left hand and a torch in her right. She wears a crown with seven points, which represent seven oceans and continents of the world.

The statue of liberty was designed by Frederic-August Bartholdi. It was started in 1876 and was finished in 1884. It is made of copper with steel supports. It was a gift to the Americans from the French, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of American Independence. The statue was made in sections. In June 1885, it was put into 214 boxes and shipped to New York. It was reassembled in four months. The statue was declared a national monument in 1924.

Nowadays, people can climb 354 steps to reach the crown, and admire the view from twenty-five windows. They can also visit the Statue of Liberty exhibit, which has museum objects, photographs, prints and videos.

You will be amazed by this beautiful statue, which should not be missed by any visitor to the New York area.

The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid is located in the Langelinie harbour of Copenhagen and is the national symbol of Denmark. It is a small statue of a mermaid sitting on a rock. Like a real mermaid, she is half human, half fish.

The statue was inspired by a fairy tale by the famous Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen. It was ordered by Carl Jacobsen, of the famous Carlsberg Brewery, after he attended a performance of The Little Mermaid by the Royal Danish Ballet Company. The statue was made by Edvard Eriksen and put up at Langelinie on 23rd August, 1913. Sadly, it has been damaged many times since then.

The Little Mermaid is visited) by more than a million people every year. It can be seen

quite easily from the Langelinie Harbour. Tourists can also enjoy the wonderful harbour view and buy postcards, T-shirts and other souvenirs at the harbour.

You will be amazed by this delightful statue, which should not be missed by any visitor to the Copenhagen area.

An article describing holiday accommodation

When we write an article describing holiday accommodation (e.g. a hotel, a campsite etc.) we can divide it into four paragraphs.

In the first paragraph, we write the name and location of the place and why it is special.

In the second paragraph, we describe the place (e.g. restaurant, rooms, bars, etc.) In the third paragraph, we write what people can do there (e.g. have a meal, have a drink, go skiing, go rafting, go fishing, etc.) In the last paragraph, we recommend the place and say when is the best time to go.

We normally use present tenses in this type of writing.

Plan

Introduction

Para 1: name and location of the place, why it is special

Main body

Para 2: description

Para 3: what you can do there

Conclusion

Para 4: recommendation, best time to go
