France is a beautiful country of historical interest in western Europe. The climate is quite cool and it is often wet in the north but much warmer and sunnier in the south.

The French are usually good-looking. They are of medium height with dark hair and a light complexion. The French are friendly people who are well known for being stylish and wearing chic designer clothes. They are sociable and talkative and they are interested in history and culture.

There are both big cities and small villages in France. The French do many jobs: they work in offices, factories, shops, on farms and in the fields. France is famous for producing cars, computers, cheese, meat and wine.

The French love going out with their friends and having fun. Their most popular free-time activities include going to cafés, going to the theatre and dancing at clubs. They also like good food and France is full of expensive restaurants, with delicious dishes of unique food.

France is a wonderful country with a lot of things to see and do. Tourists will surely love its fascinating sights and lovely people.

Dear Mum and Dad,

I'm so happy to be here in Bergen for our holidays. I'm having a fantastic time and I just love this part of Norway. Lee and I are staying at the historic Royal Hotel. At the moment we are having a cup of hot chocolate and enjoying the spectacular view of the harbour.

The weather is cold, and perfect for skiing. The seven mountains around the city are covered in thick snow. The famous fjords are stunning. Inthese quiet waters you can sail past mountains, water falls and fields. We spend most of our days hiking in the mountains with our Norwegian friends, Erik and Katerina.

Norwegians really love the outdoors. They're very friendly and kind to us. I think they're really good-looking. Most of them tend to be tall, with fair hair and light blue eyes.

The food is delicious. Norwegians like eating fish and seafood, especially salmon, shrimps, lobster and caviar. I just love eating fresh bread and smoked salmon for lunch.

Next week we're going to Oslo. I can't wait to visit the Outdoor Folk Museum. Lee is not so keen, but I'm looking forwardto it. Our flight is leaving from Oslo next Friday, so I hope you'll receive this before we get home!

I think you should come here next year. I'm sure you would love it!

See you soon.

Love,

Susan

Dear Amanda,

I can't believe I'm here in Rio de Janeiro on holiday! Everything is so different here. Do you remember the Serpas? They live here now and I'm staying with them. They live in a lovely house in Copacabana near the beach. At the moment, I'm relaxing by the pool.

The weather here is hot and sunny. Visitors to Rio can visit Sugarloaf Mountain or walk around the Botanical Gardens. I spend most of my time with the Serpas, exploring the city.

The Brazilians are friendly people. They are happy and they love having fun. They're very attractive, too. Most of them have got dark hair and brown eyes.

The food is delicious. The Brazilians love spicy I food. I love eating the tasty seafood and the coffee here is great!

Tomorrow, I'm driving to Petropolis to enjoy the mountain air. I'm also going to visit the cathedral and the Museum of the Empire. I'm leaving Rio next week, so I'll call you then.

Rio is such a colourful city. You must come here soon. See you next week.

Best wishes

Barry

Dear Carol,

I can't believe I'm here in Naples on holiday! Everything is so different here. Do you remember the Bellinis? They live here now and I'm staying with them. They live in a beautiful old house close to the bay. At the moment, I'm having some ice cream and enjoying the wonderful view.

The weather here is quite warm. Naples has over 400 churches and the city centre is clean. I spend most of my time with the Bellinis, walking along the waterfront or around the old city.

Neapolitans really love their city. They're very friendly and like having fun. They're quite good-looking, too. Most of them have got dark hair and brown eyes.

The food is excellent. Neapolitans like eating pizza, pasta and seafood. I love eating the fresh seafood here, especially shrimps.

Tomorrow, I'm taking the train to Pompeii to see the Roman sites. I'm also going to visit the Teatro di San Carlo opera house. I'm leaving Naples next Wednesday, so I'll call you then.

You really should visit Naples soon. It's a truly amazing city! See you soon.

Yours,

Mary

Dear Anne,

I am writing to you from Madrid. My family and I came here on holiday ten days ago.

We are staying in a fabulous hotel in the city centre. So far the weather has been fine.

We have been doing a lot of sightseeing. We have already been to the Plaza monumental, a huge stadium where bullfights take place. However, we haven’t been to the Prado museum yet.

I tried paella yesterday at an open-air restaurant. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The only bad thing was that while we were enjoying our dessert, it started raining. Fortunately it was just a shower!

Well, I must go now – we’re going to Toledo today.

Love,

Vicky

Dear Mandy,

How are you? I’m writing to you from Paris. I arrived four days ago with some friends.

We are staying in a wonderful guest-house near the river. The weather is really hot and sunny.

We have been doing a lot of sightseeing. Yesterday we went up to the top of the Eiffel Tower. We also visited the Louvre and saw the Mona Lisa.

Last night I tried a traditional French dish, frogs’ legs; it was tasty. While we were eating somebody stole my camera. Now I must buy a new one.

I’ll see you when I get back.

Love,

Susan.
