The export of refined tin and tin alloy was only 559 tons in 2008, dropping by 97.6%

compared with that of 23,582 tons in 2007. The import of the metal was 11,052 tons,

declining by 34.7% than that of 16,932 tons in 2007. It is obvious that the import and

export volumes have decreased greatly to some extend, and moreover, the import volume

in June and July was zero, and the export volumes were 1 ton and 5 tons. The market of

export and import was stagnant in 2008. The import volume can reach above 1,000 tons

in the first half year, while the volume began to decrease in the second half year. The

volume came to 1,500 tons in November. China has transferred to net-importation country

successfully. Affected by financial crisis, the global tin consumption decreased obviously,

especially tin chemical and electronics products, so that tin demand shrank greatly.

According to investigation, the electronics plants have reduced their demand owing to the

orders decrease, and the exportation volume declined greatly. Some plants were forced to

halt production, leading to the consumption decline of refined tin in domestic market. The

exportation volume of refined tin was zero from April to July.

Since 2008, the importation volume of tin decreased by 1/3, which seriously affected the

consumption of refined tin in the worldwide. China has transferred to net-importation

country.

The exportation of refined tin has transferred from Asian market to European and

American market. The total exportation volume from China to Holland and America

accounted for 61%. Especially the volume increase of Holland was very outstand, which

accounted for 41%.The following one is Asian Market. The exportation to Japan and

Korea only accounted for 39%. The destinations of refined tin export such as Canada and

Singapore in 2007, did not appear in 2008. It is obviously that the demand from Asian

market decreased gradually, while the demand from European and America kept

increasing.

The main import original country of refined tin is Indonesia, the total volume of refined tin

importation from Indonesia was as high as 4,380 tons, dropping by 12.8% compared with

that last year. The volume from Singapore and Bolivia accounted for 10% and 18%

respectively. The proportion from Bolivia has increased by 15%, indicating that the

importation of refined tin began to develop to different countries.

The importation of tin concentrate was mainly from South Asian in 2008, accounting for

63% of total volume, and the volume from Vietnam accounted for 39%, the second was

Bolivia of South American, accounting for 31%. The volume from Europe only 6%, while

the volume of Indonesia, the largest exportation country in the world, was very small. It is

fact that the importation volume was zero in February, May and April, and moreover the

volume has decreased greatly compared with that in 2007. The main reason is that

depressed by global financial crisis, tin price plummeted and the output of refined tin

decreased greatly and the demand for tin concentrate also dropped.
