But you can't just cry and throw tantrums whenever you want something—people have to like you. Charm is an important part of manipulating people. If you're ridiculously likable most of the time, when you react with extreme emotion it'll have a greater impact. Having control over your emotions also involves keeping them in check most of the time and not just being able to act.
3. Do you believe that gestures must accompany speech? Can they be used in place of language to communicate a message?
As our bodily actions are equally strong as our words we use in communication, gestures must accompany speech. Purely expressive display of gestures allows us to convey our feelings, sentiments and thoughts very explicitly. Use of gestures in non-verbal communication is extensive while in verbal communication they are just an addition to words in order to make the communication more effective and appealing. While giving a talk or presentation the appropriate use of hand gestures may give you confidence and let you express your emotions effectively and clearly, this also holds the listeners attention and helps you describe or elaborate the topic and prevent boredom. While networking with your friends gestures also help you to communicate your attitude, emotions, intentions, and so on. You may frown, smirk, beam, nod, pout, raise your eyebrows, scratch your head or sneer. Thus, there is a wide range of gestures which will make speech juicier and will help you to take a message to someone more easily. Gestures can be used in place of language to communicate a message. For example, hand signals such as waving good-bye, the “V” for victory sign or the “high five” signaling victory. Crossing your fingers is a gesture expressing the hope that some specific good thing will happen. However, the meaning of gestures can be very different across cultures and regions, so it’s important to be careful to avoid misinterpretation.
4.You were the chairperson at a meeting. Describe how the meeting proceeded. Was it a success or failure?
I conducted the meeting of methodological association of English teachers which took place on the 4 th of April. At 10 a.m the meeting was declared open and the floor was open for discussion. The agenda, which contained 2 items, was adopted and I gave the floor to Mrs. Smith for the report. There was a motion to fix the time limit at 10 minutes. A motion to fix a different date for English contest of high-school students was voted down. Then I offered to attend to another item of the agenda. Mr. Boyko asked the floor. He moved a motion to put to use new Oxford books, so I put the matter to the vote. I asked who was in favour of it, against it and who abstained from voting. The resolution was passed by an overwhelming majority. The agenda was complete, so I declared the meeting closed. The meeting was a success as I managed to encourage general participation, to keep the discussion on the subject and to make suggestions by means of questions. Thus, the meeting was productive and enjoyable.
5. A friend of yours is hot-tempered and inclined to stir up trouble or to get people stirred up. However, you get along well with her. How do you manage to maintain your friendship?
If you are a hot-tempered person you can easily loose your patience and express your anger ineffectively, this can strain your personal and work relationships. The problem with hot-tempered people is that they don't think when they get angry. As a result they rashly do foolish things that they later regret.
My best friend is very hot-tempered. And I must to admit it is hard to deal with her. But I appreciate our friendship, because she means a lot for me. She is very kind and always is ready to help.
People with hot-temper tend to get angry on every small thing. They just find it difficult to control themselves. That’s why you must try to calm her down for that moment. Avoid any conversation on the topic that made her angry. Ask her to cool down. Let her some time alone with herself. Later in the day, when she is a bit relaxed, speak to her. At that time, you need to make her realize that she needs to bring a change in herself. The approach in doing this should be such that she understands her mistake rather than thinking that you are there to criticize her. You can do this by taking up different scenarios and explaining her how she could have handled the situation with ease. There could be situations where your friend’s points are correct. In such a case, point out to her that she is right but also explain her a better way to deal with the situation. Of course it is necessary to divert her attention from things with a peace of humor, giving her funny logic reason on the situation. You can deal with such a person in a smart way, be very patient and smooth things over.
6. Nowadays some people are inclined to use obscenities. Do you think this is justifiable? What is your normal reaction to offensive language? Tell about an episode from your own experience.
Obscenity is a way of speaking that some people use to express their feelings of anger, annoyance, and frustration, or when they want to hurt someone else's feelings. Sometimes people use offensive language because they think it is smart or funny.
It is not justifiable to use obscenities in public, around young children, around older people, on mass media and other public places. If you respect yourself and others you won’t use expletives (лайка). If you are angry or frustrated there are lots of other words you can use to show how you feel. Usually there are only three or four bad words used by people who swear (лайка), so swearing is boring. Get creative and make up your own words to use instead of using swear words.
I witnessed lots of situations when people become rude, aggressive with fire in their eyes and passion in their voice and use offensive language. It is very common in public transport, when you step on one’s food accidentally, in queues and others. You have to be patient, not to loose your temper in unpleasant situations, because how you can manage yourself shows who you are, how intelligent you are.
Obscenities in public upsets many people. It is good manners to remember where you are and think about other people's rights and feelings. If people are annoying you by using bad language move away from them and don't use it yourself.
7. You have observed a class which you think was a success, in a general sense;
however, a few details need to be discussed. comment on them.
As I observed the class, I tried to notice everything. In general sense the lesson was quite passable. But the teacher was obviously performing before me, tried to displayed his power very ostentatiously. He paraded the top students. That’s why the others remain indifferent. At some moment the teacher spoke in a harsh voice, which didn’t carry well. The discipline wasn’t established at the very beginning. The timing of the lesson wasn’t well balanced. Nevertheless the teacher let every pupil express his/her own opinion. The lesson made use only of handouts, no technologies or audio-visual media. So I must make a conclusion that the lesson left much to be desired.
8. Instruct a new teacher about potential pitfalls which may await him at their
school. How can one avoid them?
You are a novice and set foot in school for the first time? Be ready for potential pitfalls.
It is very necessary to set up a discipline at the very beginning. This will help you to win them over. During the lesson pupils can set you at defiance. To cope with it or even avoid it you can with the help of the leader of the class, whom you should find a way with. Then try to strike up a rapport with everyone. You have to gain a firm ground and show your authority. If you see that there is going to be some problem, try to lighten a potential blow-up at once. Don’t let the pupils play for time, distract you from the lesson or disrupt the class. All you need to avoid pitfalls at school is to exert yourself and get through to pupils and they will never have in mind to play a trick with you.
9. How are students apt to make fun of their teachers? Should they be punished?
Did you play tricks on your teachers at school or university?
All teachers encounter disruptive behavior – a student or students whose behavior gets in the way of the class. Such outbursts are frequently hostile to the teacher or the other students and they can be difficult to deal with. Disruptive behavior is not confined to one age group. Students can become incredibly unruly, noisy, unresponsive and uncooperative. Adult students are disruptive in different ways. They may publicly disagree with a teacher. I don’t think such students must be punished, teacher should suggest his students some code of conduct. It means that teacher a students have some rules for being at the classroom. Certain things do not comply with such forms of behavior – arriving late, interrupting other students when they speak, bringing drinks and food into the room, forgetting to do home assignment (or just saying so), not paying attention or playing games, which are not connected with lesson or theme.
