2. Read the text carefully.

In our country housing construction is being carried out on a large scale. Hundreds of factories producing prefabs are being constantly built. Builders, as we know, assemble a house from prefabricated units, which are delivered, to the construction site. A great variety of materials are nowadays used by builders. Students of building institutes study the available materials and fields of their application. When they become full-fledged builders they develop new building materials and building techniques.

A qualified building worker must now be able to read a technical drawing; he must know the scale and the specification. A person entering this profession must have a scientific attitude, imagination, initiative and good judgment, obtained by experience and serious work.

The building profession attracts many young men and women, because it is an honourable profession. Builders construct and reconstruct residential and industrial buildings, bridges, theatres, stations and others. Their aim is to provide people with all modern conveniences, such as purified running water, gas, electricity, central heating, comfortable and durable buildings.

The application of engineering fundamentals and analyses to construction activities may reveal knowledge of a specialist gained at the university. That is why curriculum includes not only theoretical but practical training as well.

The would be engineers are trained in different specialties at the building faculty, namely: Industrial and Civil Engineering (including Building Units, Building Technology, Expertise and management of real estate, Pricing, Computer-Aided Design); Architecture; Hydraulics; City Engineering; Heating, Ventilation and Gas Supply; Water Supply and Sewage Disposal.

Building faculty was opened in 1929 to meet the requirements of the country: to have more professional builders in the Urals. In 1934 it became one of the departments of Urals State technical Institute. The history of this faculty is really closely connected with the history of training building engineers. The faculty is proud of its graduates, academic staff who have been making a great contribution into housing policy of the country.

4. Make a dialogue between a student of the Building Faculty and a student of any faculty of USTU. To this end find additional up-to-date information about the faculty.

5. Prepare your own story for learning it by heart.
