Exam Information

All candidates take two SETs:

Mathematics and Physics

Mathematics and Critical Thinking

Chemistry and Biology

These combinations have been chosen by the candidate prior to the test day and CANNOT be changed on the day of the test.

Date: 3 March 2013

Time: 9.30 – 10.30am Mathematics

10.30 – 11.00 BREAK

11.00 – 12.00 Physics/Critical Thinking

12.00 – 13.00 BREAK

13.00 – 14.00 Chemistry

14.00 – 14.30 BREAK

14.30 – 15.30 Biology

Items permitted in examinations

Items allowed: Items NOT allowed:
  · Pen – blue or black ink · Pencil for rough work · Pencil eraser, sharpener · Paper-based general English language dictionary · Calculator (for Physics exam ONLY) NO MOBILE PHONE · Bottle of water · ID/Passport   · MOBILE PHONES · Revision notes · Textbooks or electronic and/or subject dictionaries · Paper for rough work · Laptops, media storage devices or audio players · Staplers, ink erasers or correction fluid/tape · Food or carbonated drinks · Ear plugs · Wearing of headgear

 

You are strongly advised to leave all non-essential items at home or in the cloakroom as you will NOT be able to take them into the Exam Venue.

 

Students must observe the following regulations and any other instructions given to them by invigilation staff, examiners or other staff responsible for the conduct of the SETs.

Test Venue Regulations

DOs:

 

· DO sit in your assigned seat (each desk will be numbered to help you locate the correct seat and you will be given your desk number during registration)

 

· DO put your national ID/passport on your desk

 

· DO fill in the front cover of your test paper and listen to the invigilator’s announcements

· DO write your surname in CAPITAL letters and name in lower case letters on the cover sheet

 

· DO put the date, the name of the city you are taking SET in and sign the cover page

 

· DO write clearly in English using blue or black ink only

 

· DO raise your hand if you have a query or feel unwell

 

· DO use a calculator in Physics test ONLY (NO Mobile phones)

 

· DO use only a paper-based general English language dictionary

 

· DO use extra blank pages at the end of the SET booklet for rough work

 

· DO pay attention to the 30, 10 and 5 minute warning announcements and stop writing as soon as time is called, remaining silent in your seat until all SET papers have been collected

 

· DO leave the test venue quickly and quietly when told to do so by the invigilator

 

 

DONTs:

o DO NOT bring bags and coats into the test venue

o DO NOT speak to other candidates once you have entered the test venue

 

o DO NOT read the question paper until told to do so but check you have the correct paper

 

o DO NOT write anything else on your SET paper before the start of the test unless told to do so by the invigilator

 

o DO NOT leave your seat without permission once the test has started

 

o DO NOT share a calculator or dictionary with others

 

SETs irregularities

NU takes the matter of SETs misconduct very seriously.

The following are examples of actions that constitute examination offences:

· Cheating, attempting to cheat or assisting someone else to cheat

 

· Having unauthorised items on or under your desk or about your person

 

· Writing notes on hands, arms or other parts of the body

 

· Tampering with the test booklet, question papers or other stationery

 

· Causing a disturbance or disrupting the test process
