These are some of the techniques used by psychics …

1. Something psychics always do is say something that’s true of almost anyone on the planet, preferably something positive. These are called Barnum statements. An all-time favourite is ‘You’re intelligent with a great sense of humour’. Who is going to answer, ‘Well actually, I’m not. I’m really stupid and have no sense of humour at all’?

Here are a few more examples of Barnum statements:

“You are sometimes insecure, especially with people you don't really know well.”

“You have a lot of old unsorted photographs at home.”

“When you were young, you had some sort of an accident involving water.”

“You're experiencing some tension with a friend or a relative at the moment.”

"Your father died because of problems in his chest or abdomen. " (only for older people)

Even if the subject cannot relate to a certain Barnum statement, the psychic will find an excuse or a way out. If the subject cannot, for instance, remember any childhood accident involving water, the reader can simply blame it on his forgetfulness.

2. Statistics confirm that a headache is the most common female health problem and almost 50% of men have a scar on their leg, so it’s not really surprising when a psychic ‘sees’ these problems.

3. A psychic can deduce a lot from your age and appearance, and most of them actually ask direct questions. It’s difficult to avoid answering if you want results, because saying nothing is like going to the doctor and refusing to discuss your symptoms.

4. Coming up with a few names is always impressive. The usual method is to let the client work out who it might be. ‘Does the letter S mean anything to you?’ is a frequent strategy.

Grammar

At this level you are going to look at the English tenses from a different perspective.

You’re going to use the aspects approach: Simple, Continuous, Perfect and Perfect Continuous.

Simple tenses are used whenever we are talking about a point in time (точка во времени); they show an action as a fact.
