The AQUAREDPOT project

The EU-FP7 project: Improvement of research and innovation potential of Research Institute for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Irrigation (HAKI) to promote technological development in Central and Eastern European aquaculture, focus on the development of the human and infrastructural resources of the institute. In the frame of Aquaredpot project five new post-doctoral positions are available in the following fields:

1. Fish nutritionist (experience in fish physiology and nutrigenomics)

2. Fish immunologist (experience in gene expression analysis, challenge tests trials)

3. Hydrobiologist / aquatic ecologist (experience in management of aquatic ecosystem)

4. Aquaculturist (experience in design and operation of aquaculture systems, live feed culture)

5. Fish geneticist (experience in fish breeding and domestication programs)

The general content of the postdoctoral work

Contribution on the running research projects, creating project-funded research works on the relevant topics, cooperation with the members of the aquaculture sector (fish producers, feed producers, veterinary organizations, system designers etc.) and consultancy work for local and regional fish-farmers.

General requirements for the positions

PhD or similar degree preferably obtained after June 2003. The minimum number of articles published in international periodicals with impact factor are three, with at least of two articles where the candidate is the first author. Good knowledge of English which will be checked through the interview. Work experience on the relevant topic.

Detailed requirements for each positions and the selection procedure

Fish nutritionist

Experience and skills in research methodologies including experimental design, nutrient requirements and feed formulation, management of nutritional experiments, laboratory analyses methods, data evaluation and statistics. Applicant shall be acquainted with fundamentals of nutrition physiology, nutritional biochemistry and molecular biology, as well as, the basics of sustainable aquaculture related to feed supply, environmental effects.

Fish immunologist

(The candidate should be able to study the integration of physiological and immunological responses to disease pathogens and to nutrients. Preference will be given to candidates who have used multiple techniques to address a single scientific problem, and to individuals who can work well in a collaborative team. Desired credentials of applicant should include work in molecular biology or microbiology/immunology, and an interest in fish health The successful candidate is preferred to have expertise in the areas of food science, animal health or animal welfare but other areas, including physiology, environmental microbiology and pathology, will be considered

Hydrobiologist/aquatic ecologist

The ideal candidate to this research position has broad experience in water and sediment sampling, hydrobiological analysis, plankton biology and community composition analysis, participation in laboratory activities and on site measurements in aquatic ecosystems. The successful candidate will take part in research programs focusing on the water quality monitoring of aquatic ecosystems, nutrient management in ponds and other aquaculture systems, development of pond fish production systems and effluent treatment in constructed wetlands.
