Customs officer: Oh, yes, I see. Open your bag, please.

Passenger: Here you are.

Customs officer: Do you come to work?

Passenger: Yes, I’ve got an invitation from an engineering company here in Toronto.

We are partners.

Customs officer: Are you alone here?

Passenger: No, I am with my wife. She comes on a personal visit.

Customs officer: OK. That’s all I wanted to know. Thank you.

Passenger: Thank you.

 

II.

Immigration officer: Your passport, please.

Mr. Borisov: Here you are.

Immigration officer: What’s the purpose of your visit to London, sir?

Mr. Borisov: It’s a business trip.

Immigration officer: How long will you stay here?

Mr. Borisov: For a month.

Immigration officer: Your passport is in order. Please, go through the customs over there.

Mr. Borisov: Thank you.

 

III.

Mr. Kozlov is going through the customs at London airport.

 

Customs officer: Is this your suitcase, sir?

Mr. Kozlov: Yes, that’s right.

Customs officer: Will you, please, open it?

Mr. Kozlov: Certainly.

Customs officer: Have you got anything to declare?

Mr. Kozlov: No, I don’t think so, though I have some cigarettes for my own use.

Customs officer: How many packets of cigarettes have you got?

Mr. Kozlov: Oh, I’ve got only three packets. I believe they’ll be duty free.

Customs officer: Yes, of course. Have you got any presents or anything liable to duty?

Mr. Kozlov: No, I haven’t.

Customs officer: Well, thank you, sir.

Mr. Kozlov: Thank you.

The customs officer asked the passenger if he had got any things to declare. Then he asked him what the purpose of his visit to New York was. He wanted to know how many blocks of cigarettes he had. He wondered how long the man would stay in New York. He also wanted to know at which hotel the man was going to stay. And at last he asked the passenger what he had in the bag and wished him to have a nice stay in the USA.
