Items

Lucky Seven: Things to remember that can help you find your way to an amazing hunt and Costa Rica!

READ THESE BEFORE DOING ANY ITEMS!

1. Be Safe and Legal. Do not risk your safety by attempting to complete an item that you think could be dangerous or illegal. If you start to question if what you are about to do might be dangerous or illegal, don’t do it. You can find another item that’s safe to complete. We are not experts in the legal code of over a hundred countries. While it is not Misha’s intention, some items may not be legal in your country. Per our Rules and Regulations and Liability Waiver, it is your responsibility to determine this. If it is illegal in your locality or you think it might be illegal, don’t do it!

2. Commandments. Read the Commandments. Yes, again. And maybe one more time. If you don’t follow the Commandments, you will be docked points and you might even get your whole team disqualified. There are certain things in there, like not sharing your submissions online until AFTER the Hunt (unless an item specifies otherwise) that you don’t want to miss. Also, we may add or remove items and change the rules on you mid-hunt, so it is your responsibility to check the Updates page daily.

3. Scavenging. Some are in this to win, others are in this to be creative, others are in this simply to spend a week of their life with friends doing something different. Respect everyone, no matter how hard they're scavenging. Focus on creating art, changing yourself and maybe even the world, not the talents or dedication of your teammates. Complainers, bullies and haters are not welcome in the kingdom of gishwhes and shall be banished forever.

4. Submission Quality. Judges are authorized to assign additional bonus points when judging item submissions (up to 100% or more depending on the item). Additional points may be assigned if all of the following are true: (1) the submission follows all of the item requirements, (2) there is something unique about the submission, (3) the image or video is stunning in how the content was put together, and (5) it looks like the team had fun completing the item. Try to submit the highest quality photos and videos you can. BUT DON’T WORRY! If you don't have an amazing camera, you’ll be okay. Make up for it with unique props, angles, or ideas to enhance the submission. When assessing what you’re going to do for a submission, try to find a way to make the judges go “wow.” It will pay off in points.

5. Interpretation. If we ask for something to be in the picture or video, submit exactly what is asked. If we ask for a real camel in the picture, we don't want a drawing of a camel, or an inflatable camel. We want a real, hairy, spitting humped beast. Points will be docked for violation of this rule. Every year, this is our biggest problem with submissions. People think they can photoshop their way into the winners' circle. They can’t. Don’t be part of the problem.

6. Creative Courageous Scavenging. Be creative and courageous in how you get props and materials for your items. You don't have to buy materials. Teams use friends, neighbors, donations, and communities to collect item props. They do call outs on social media for props - think about it, you have hundreds of people’s closets and garages to access! Moreover, you will find if you ask people for help, they will love to help a scavenger hunt. You can win simply by being clever and borrowing. Someone, somewhere has what you need. Ask and borrow. People will help you. This isn’t a game of who can spend the most.

7. Do it. Have fun, make friends, push your boundaries and mud wrestle with your creative side.

ALL of the Items below should either be captured as "images" (which are photographs) or "videos". When you click “Submit," there will be instructions on how to submit the links to these images or videos. You should only use IMGUR and YOUTUBE.

IMPORTANT - Unless otherwise specified, ALL VIDEOS must be NO LONGER than 14 seconds. If you’re a second or two over we’re not going to penalize you (we know how finicky youtube can be), but aim for 14 or under. They can be shorter if you wish!
