This exposition is devoted to the military history of Russia from antiquity to the present day. In this hall you’ll find soldiers, which are made of different materials.

Gallery «Saint Petersburg perspective»

One of advantages of this exposition is your opportunity to see Saint Petersburg in historical perspective and record changes in life of citizens. In this gallery you’ll find famous citizens: from Romanov family to Russian football player Arshavin or figure skater Evgeni Plushenko.

The room of puppets

Generation of playing dolls have been born by our distant forefathers’ magic and cult actions, so priests and shamans could be first puppeteers. This hall introduces the history of puppets, here you’ll find different types of puppets: glove puppets, marionettes, mechanized dolls.

Show workshops and museum store

On the 2^nd floor there are show workshops, where designers make their dolls – Poteshny Promysel (Amusing Trade). “Poteshny Promysel” creates dolls for different tastes: dolls in historical costumes of all nations and estates, fantasy characters, dolls-images of famous people, custom-made dolls, etc. Professional designers, ethnographers, experienced competent masters take part in designing models. “Poteshny Promysel” is a member of Association of Folk Trades of Russia.

About us

The Saint-Petersburg Dolls Museum, which is one of the first non-state museums in Russia, was established in 1998. Numerous private collections formed the basis of museum fund.

The exposition is constantly supplemented with modern author’s dolls and antique dolls. All the author’s dolls are unique. There are designers, who are famous in many countries or well-known only in a narrow circle, young artists from the St. Petersburg State Theatre Arts Academy, designers, who come to our museum for work and perform their creative feat according to schedule, among the authors of our dolls. Our museum is really democratic in arrangement of the exhibits: dolls live in showcases according to subject, not to their material values or their author’s ranks.

Every showcase is complete performance, which is sincere, kind and harmonious. We have no malicious or disgusting dolls. All the designers know: dolls mustn’t carry negative emotions. Even if the character isn’t positive, doll won’t arouse bad emotions.
