IV International Competition of Classic and

Contemporary Choreography "MYSL-POTOK"

The competition will be held on March 1-3, 2014 in Kyiv, in Kyiv Municipal Ukrainian Dance Academy named after Serge Lifar (Dankevych str., 4-a).

 

The International competition "MYSL-POTOK" is the first in Ukraine consists of three competitions in one:

- competition of classical choreography performers;

- competition of contemporary choreography performers;

- competition of modern dance choreographers.

 

The prize fund of IV International competition of classic and contemporary choreography "MYSL-POTOK" exceeds 6 thousand Euro.

 

REGULATIONS

 

I. The major goals of the competition are:

 

- to reveal the most gifted artists and improve their creative potential;

- to increase the professional level of choreography students;

- to share professional experiences;

- to evolve traditions of classic ballet and combine achievements of modern styles of choreography.

 

II. Contest participation conditions

 

We invite to take part in the competition:

choreographic schools, schools of arts, ballet schools, academies, colleges, artists of ballet.

 

To register for participation by February17, 2014 please е-маil:

- application form with the program for each round (Annex 1, Word.doc only);

- photocopy of ID, confirming the age of participant, photo, brief CV;

- dance phonogram in мр3;

- authorial choreography copyright clearance.

The Organizing Committee will notify each candidate on the admittance to the competition. The participants and their partners should arrive in the terms specified by the Organizing Committee in the invitation.

 

III. Nominations and Conditions:

3.1. The competition of classical choreography performers is held in three nominations:

 

Nomination 1 (solo):

competition for classical choreography performers of five age groups, young men and girls separately.

 

Junior group – 7-10 years old, participants under 11 years old as of March 1, 2014;

Teen group – 11-13 years old, participants under 14 years old as of March 1, 2014;

Senior group(1) – 14-16 years old, participants under 17 years old as of March 1, 2014;

Senior group(2) – 17-19 years old, participants under 20 years old as of March 1, 2014;

Professionals – 20 -27 years old, participants under 28 years old as of March 1, 2014.

 

Nomination 2 (duet):

Senior group(1) – 14-16 years old, participants under 17 years old as of March 1, 2014;

Senior group(2) – 17-19 years old, participants under 20 years old as of March 1, 2014;

Professionals – 20-27 years old, participants under 28 years old as of March 1, 2014.

 

Nomination 3 (groups):

Competition of choreographic groups consisting of 3-20 persons of all age groups with the number of participants older than the declared age group not exceeding 30%.

 

3.2. Program of competition classical choreography performers:

FIRST ROUND:

SOLO: Junior group – one performance based on classic choreography (no pointe-shoes),

Teen group – one classic variation;

Senior group 1, senior group 2 and professionals – two classic variations or pas-de-deux;

 

DUET: pas-de-deux;

 

GROUP: all age groups – one performance based on classical choreography (duration from 3 to 7 minutes).

SECOND ROUND:

SOLO, DUET, GROUP:

all age groups - one performance based on contemporary choreography (demi-classics, jazz, modern, contemporary or synthesis of these styles).

Solo, duet – duration from 3 to 6 minutes,

Groups – duration up to 7 minutes.

 

Participants of the second round should present choreography produced after 2004.

Participants of the second round performing authorial choreography should obtain the copyright clearance.

THIRD ROUND:

SOLO: junior group -one classic performance or variations (repetitions allowed);

teen group – one classic performance (new) or variations (new);

senior group 1, senior group 2 and professionals – one classic variation (new) and contemporary performance (repetitions allowed)

DUET: senior group 1 – pas-de-deux (repetitions allowed)

senior group 2 and professionals – pas-de-deux (new)

GROUP: junior group -one performance based on classical choreography duration from 3 to 7 minutes (repetitions allowed);

all age groups - one new performance (based on neo-classicism).

 

3.3. The competition of contemporary choreography performers is held in three nominations:

Nomination 1 (solo):

competition for contemporary choreography performers of five age groups, young men and girls separately.

 

Junior group – 7-10 years old, participants under 11 years old as of March 1, 2014;

Teen group – 11-13 years old, participants under 14 years old as of March 1, 2014;

Senior group(1) – 14-16 years old, participants under 17 years old as of March 1, 2014;

Senior group(2) – 17-19 years old, participants under 20 years old as of March 1, 2014;

Professionals – 20 years old and older.

 

Nomination 2 (duet):

Senior group(1) – 14-16 years old, participants under 17 years old as of March 1, 2014;

Senior group(2) – 17-19 years old, participants under 20 years old as of March 1, 2014;

Professionals – 20 years old and older.

 

Nomination 3 (groups):

Competition of choreographic groups consisting of 3-20 persons of all age groups with the number of participants older than the declared age group not exceeding 30%.

3.4. Program of competition contemporary choreography performers:

FIRST ROUND:

Solo, duet, group: all age groups present one original performance (duration from 3 to 6 min.) based on of contemporary choreography (jazz, modern, afro-jazz, contemporary or synthesis of these styles)

SECOND ROUND:

Solo, duet, group: all age groups present one original performance based on contemporary choreography (jazz, modern, afro-jazz, contemporary, or synthesis of these styles) and the second performance in choreographic style specified by the Organizing Committee.

In the second contemporary choreography round of the 4th International competition “MYSL-POTOK” the participants present their second performance in modern style.

Duration of all performances in the second round for all age groups in solo nomination – up to 4 min., duet – up to 5 min., group – up to 7 min.

Participants of the second round should present choreography produced after 2004. Participants of the second round performing authorial choreography should obtain the copyright clearance.

THIRD ROUND:

Solo, duet, group: all age groups present one performance (performances from previous rounds are allowed)

 

3.5. Conditions of Choreographers’ Competition:

 

The competition of choreographers evaluates two specially prepared performances in any style of modern choreography:

- SOLO, duration up to 5 minutes;

- GROUP, duration up to 7 minutes.

 

There are not age limitations, number of participants not exceeding 30 persons.

To take part in the competition please e-mail video of one performance before February 10, 2014.

 

Upon the approval by the Organizing Committee before February 17, 2014 the participant should submit:

- entry form (Annex 2);

- brief biography(CV);

- photocopy of passport;

- photocopy of education certificate.

 

Charitable contribution of 50 Euro is made before February 17, 2014.

The choice of music is not limited.

All choreographers admitted to competition will be notified by the Organizing Committee not later than February17, 2014.

 

IV. Jury

 

A Chairman of the Jury is the People’s artist of Ukraine SERGEY BONDUR.

International jury - well-known figures of choreographic art.
