1. – Are you hungry?
- Oh yes, I am.
And I’m awfully thirsty.
- Would you like a glass of orange juice?
- Thank you. I’d love one. I like orange juice very much.
- And I prefer apple juice to all other juices.
- All kinds of juices are good for health: tomato, apple, apricot and pine-apple juice.
2. – I’m awfully hungry. What will we have?
- The three-course meal, I suppose.
- Well, you choose.
3. – Let’s start with salad, then chicken soup, fish and chips.
- I think I’ll have some green peas and a cup of tea without sugar.
- Are you slimming?
- Yes, I am. So it’s rather a problem to please me, I’m afraid.
4. – You aren’t eating much. Are you slimming?
- Oh yes, I am.
- What does your diet allow you?
- Well, a little boiled meat or fish, a few hard-boiled eggs, some cheese or milk, a lot of vegetables: lettuce, cabbage, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, very few potatoes, a lot of fruit. No ice-cream, no cakes, no chocolate and very little salt.
5. - Some peas, a lot of fruit, tomato salad, no meat or sausage, a glass of plum juice. Are you a vegetarian?
- Oh yes. And so are my children. And what about you?
- I’m afraid I’m not. And neither are my parents. None of us is a vegetarian. I find good roast beef is much tastier than watery vegetables.
6. – I must confess I like good food, and occasional beer, cheerful people, theatres and lively music.
- Is this your keep-fit programme?
- Yes, it is. My motto is “eat at pleasure, drink with measure and enjoy life as it is”.
- You are not a fitness fanatic, are you?
7. – How many meals a day do you have?
- Usually I have four meals a day. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and cold supper.
8. – You are so slim and you are always in perfectly good health. What is your keep-fit programme?
- Keep-fit programme? Oh, no programme at all. As a rule I don’t eat sweets. They are fattening.
9. – Have you ever tasted Mexican dishes?
- No, I haven’t. I’ve never been to Mexico.
- And what do you think of spicy food?
- I avoid it. I prefer everything natural.
10. – A cigarette?
- No, thanks.
- A drop of brandy?
- I’m off alcohol.
- Isn’t it boring sometimes to follow these strict rules?
- They are not strict at all. If you’re in perfectly good health you can work well and have more pleasures of life. Why not form good habits?
- I agree with you. Health is the greatest wealth.
