Read the dialogues and get ready to do some tasks.

A: Is this the hotel we are going to stay at?

B: It is. But I haven’t booked the rooms yet. I’ll go in and see about them now.

A: All right. I’ll pay the driver and join you in the hall.

* 2 *

A: Good morning. Can I have two single rooms with bathrooms, please?

Receptionist: We are rather full up, but I’ll see. How long do you intend to stay?

A: I expect we’ll be here for a week or so.

R: Then you can have a double room with a bathroom on the first floor.

A: How much is it?

R: It’s seventy dollars a night, including breakfast.

A: All right. I’ll take it.

R: Will you fill in the form, please?

A: Surname, name, nationality, home address, place and date of birth, signature. Is that all right?

R: Yes, that is. Let us know the day before you leave the hotel, please. We can have your bill ready for you.

A: I’ll be sure to let you know.

R: Thank you. Here is your key. Room number twenty-two. The boy will show you up to your room and take in your luggage.

A: Thanks.

* 3 *

Bell-boy: Sir, I’ll show you up to your room. This way, please.

(In the room)

This is your room, sir.

A: Oh, this’ll do very well. What a fine view.

B: Yes, sir. It’s one of the best rooms in the hotel.

A: Where’s the bath?

B: That door is on the left.

A: That’s nice.

B: Is there anything else, sir?

A: Yes. Whom can I ask to wake me up in the morning?

B: If you phone for room-service, sir, they will help you. They will give you a ring in the morning at the time you want.

A: Thank you.

* 4 *

(Calling room-service)

A: Room-service?

Room-service: Yes, sir. Can I help you?

A: Will you wake me up tomorrow morning? I don’t have my alarm clock with me. Room number twenty-two.

R: Certainly, sir. I’ll wake you up. When do you usually get up?

A: At eight o’clock. But what time’s breakfast here?

R: Breakfast is served from seven to ten.

A: So wake me up at eight, please.

R: Very well, sir.

* 5 *

(Another phone ring)

A: Hello, is that room service?

Room-service: Yes, it is, sir.

A: I’m not feeling very well this morning. Could you send up some breakfast, please?

R: Yes, sir. What would you like?

A: Bacon and eggs. Toast and tea, please.

R: O.K. everything will be brought in about ten minutes.

A: Thank you very much.

* 6 *

Chambermaid: Have you rung, sir?

A: Yes, I have some laundry here. Will you take it, please?

C: Certainly, sir.

A: When can I have it back?

C: It depends on the number of things. How many things do you have?

A: There are two shirts, three pairs of socks and some handkerchiefs.

I think that’s all. That’s urgent.

C: So we can manage it by tomorrow morning.

A: Thank you. And one thing more. I’d like to have my suit brushed and pressed.

C: Certainly, sir. Could you let me have it straight away?

A: Yes. Here you are. When will it be ready?

C: In an hour’s time.

A: Fine.

* 7 *

A: Yesterday I told you I’d be leaving today. May I have my bill now?

Receptionist: What’s your room number?

A: Twenty-two.

R: Just a minute, sir… Here you are.

(Presents a bill, which the guest pays)

If you want a taxi, a bell-boy can help you.

A: Yes. Send him to get one, please.

R: I hope your stay here has been a pleasant one, sir.

A: Yes, I’ve been very comfortable here. Thank you very much indeed.
