HOTEL Part One

Text

Read the text, understand it and get ready to do some tasks.

When you are to visit any place and stay there for some days, or if you have to move from one town to another because of your job, you prefer to feel comfortable during your trips. The best way to have comfort is to stay at a good hotel. There are different types of hotels: large and small, expensive and rather cheap, top and average, state and private. Each hotel has a constant range of facilities. There are some single and double rooms in it. Top exclusive hotels have also “suits”: special several room apartments for rich and important guests. Hotel rooms can be front or back. Back rooms are cheaper, but as a rule, they are much quieter. Usually every room has a private bathroom and a toilet, a telephone & a TV set. Modern hotel apartments are equipped with a conditioner and a satellite TV. Bathrobes are also provided in the rooms. Expensive hotels have some extra facilities, such as swimming pools, thermal baths, saunas, fitness rooms, gymnasiums, cinema complexes, discotheques, nightclubs, sport grounds and courts, beauty salons and others. Almost every hotel has common room services: wake-up, laundry, pressing, dry cleaning, hair dressing and shoe-polishing. They are very important for guests.

Usually the price for the room includes breakfast, but light snacks are served in a hotel bar and meals are available in a restaurant. Top hotels offer their guests special diets. If a guest prefers some special food, he is to inquire with the dispatcher of the hotel. Hotel room service staff helps the guests to accommodate. The staff consists of bell-boys, chambermaids, receptionists (desk-clerks), lift-boys, dispatchers, porters, waiters and a captain. They do their best to help you feel comfortable at the hotel. It’s usual to tip them. When you want to stay at a hotel you’d better book a room in advance. You can send a telegram or a fax to the hotel reservation department. Without saying you are to pay some extra money for booking a room in advance, but it saves you of some troubles. If you want to accommodate at a hotel, you are to fill the accommodation card, write your name, surname, nationality or citizenship, sex: male or female, marital status: married or single. Your passport is necessary. Usually an accommodation booking form is filled in capital letters. Some hotels have special facilities for children and even pets. But you are to know this for sure before come to the hotel with your baby or your dog. Usually some souvenir shops and news-stands are located in a hotel.
