Chapter 1
1) Managers coordinates and oversee the work of other people so that organizational goals can be accomplished.Manager can be classified as “first line” middle line” and “top manager”according to organization levels.
2) Managers job consist of two critical issues:
Effectiveness is achieving the right results: to decide What must be done, and do it right. (GET IT DONE!!)
Efficiency is making the most out of available resources.
Efficiency is important but insufficient. It is possible to be very efficient doing the“ wrong” things.
The 4 functions of management include (defining goals, establishing strategies and developing plans), organizing (arranging and structuring work), leading (working with and through people) and controlling(monitoring, comparingand correcting work performance).
Universality of management is known has the reality that management is needed in all types and sizes of organizations, at all organizational levels, in all organizational areas, and in organizations no matter where located.
4) We’ll look at four major approaches to management theory: classical, behavioral, quantitative, and contemporary.
Classical approach theory is a school of management thought in which theorist delved into how to find the best possible way for workers to perform their task.
