Anti-corruption in America

The Inter-American Convention Against Corruption is an American convention designed to fight corruption and for collaborating with other countries in this effort. One area of focus is the prevention of corruption by preventing bribery through established policies on what constitutes corruption and what doesn't. An additional area of focus is assigning responsibilities of accountability for those who violate policies based on jurisdiction, whether it be on a domestic and international arena. The United States looks at corruption in aspects such as the use of property for bribing and bank secrecy.

Because the United Nations is headquartered in America, the U.S. cooperates with other regions of the world to battle corruption both internally and externally. The UN Convention Against Corruption established policies to deal with preventing corruption all over the world, including returning stolen property to countries of origin and fighting against money laundering. Regions that have participated include Africa, Europe, Latin American and Asia. This convention highlights the importance of detecting corruption in all sectors, including business, government, and nonprofit.
