Task 5. Watch Video 10.4 again and identify two realia reflected in the clip (both audially and visually).
Task 6. Watch Video 10.5 lead. What holiday is in the media focus? Fill in the gaps to identify the realia the video contains.

Transcribe the piece and get its idea. What verb would you use to characterise the event highlighted in the clip?
Task 15. Watch Video 10.9. What genre is it? What is the general idea of the clip? Now do the following tasks.
1. Transcribe the clip and make lexical analysis of its script. You may need to know expressions Christmas rows and counseling service to get a better idea of the piece.
2. Identify a proverb and an idiom in the clip, find their Russian equivalents. How long does Christmas festive season last in the UK, according to the video clip? To what effect?
Task 16. Watch Video 10.10, determine its genre. Answer the questions.
1. What political event is broadcast live?
2. What city is it being held in? When?
3. Who is talking? What post does he hold? Since what time?
4. What is the overall idea of the speech featured in the clip?
Task 17. Watch Video 10.10 again and say what London boroughs, areas and districts are mentioned by the speaker (six in total).
Task 18. Fill the gaps in the sentences below, translate them into Russian.

Stylistic features of news broadcast media list lexical stylistic devices and morphological expressive means.
Lexical stylistic devices are: epithets, metaphors, metonymy, simile, idiom s (a miserable prime minister; emotional idiocy; a crushing defeat; poor decisions; busting pay rises; to put a brave face on something).

“The I” is aimed at people who are time poor (BBC News).
– So, it’s a very moving article (Sky News).
BMW faces a major boardroom shake-up (Sky News).
The landscape for public bodies needs radical reform (BBC News).
A bonfire of quangos we expected, a conflagration of waste and bureaucracy – well may be (BBC News).
To sugar a bitter pill, the plan before the PM is set to include that Kosovo remain part of Yougoslavia (Sky News).

Morphological stylistic means embrace grammatical means and syntactical devices: word order, type of sentences, type of syntactical links, etc. (inversion, repetition, parallel constructions, asyndeton, polysyndeton).

Broadcast news media stylistic devices are typical predominantly of such genres, as a report, comment, extended press review and talk. Such devices add emotional colouring to broadcast news media texts, nearing them to belles-lettres texts. On the other hand, brief news genres tend to be stylistically neutral, devoid of any emotion to prevent distracting the viewer’s or listener’s attention from minor details.
