Focus review

Focus F Making comparisons

First look at the following sentences from Unit 14, 'Tapes and Tape Drives'. Decide whether the sentences express: a. equivalence; b. non-equivalence; or c. the superlative, then underline the words expressing the comparison.

............................... 1. The tape is then threaded through the

machine in a way similar to that of threading a tape through a tape recorder.

............................... 2. How much information is stored on the tape

depends on the length of the tape as well as its density.

............................... 3. Newer models use nine tracks rather than

seven as the older models did.

............................... 4. If a tape drive has a transfer speed of 200

IPS, reading from a 6250 BPI density tape is like reading about 15,000 cards in one second.

............................... 5. Tapes are obviously a faster medium than

punched cards for accessing information.

............................... 6. Moreover, tapes require less space in the

library.

Now read the text on 'Cards and Card Readers' again, and as you read, complete the table below by writing the sentence or that part of the sentence that expresses a comparison.
