Supernatural languages

Several years ago as we were speaking in a west Texas town, a man from India came into a meeting wanting to be healed of a snake bite. His foot was tremendously swollen, and he had been drinking a lot of alcohol. The Spirit directed me to call him up on the stage. I asked him if he was saved, and he replied, “No.” I then led him in a sinner’s prayer before laying hands on him for the baptism with the Holy Spirit and healing.

He fell under the power of the Holy Spirit and began speaking in tongues, when suddenly he jumped to his feet, amazed at what had happened to the snake bite, and began to speak to me in a foreign language. He was obviously questioning me about something, so I spoke to him in tongues. He asked another question, then another, and each time I answered him in tongues. Then another question. Another answer in tongues. Another question. Another answer in tongues. This continued for ten or fifteen minutes with the entire audience basking in the glory of God because it looked like we were both speaking in tongues. He finally seemed satisfied, so he left the stage saved, baptized with the Holy Spirit, he had fallen under the power of God, and was healed!

Several years later we were back in the same town and the couple who had sponsored the meeting told us an interesting thing. They said, “Do you remember the man from India who came to that meeting with the snake bite?” We answered in the affirmative.

Then they said, “When he left the meeting he came over to us and said, ‘Where did that woman learn to talk the Indian language? Not only did she speak the language, but the dialect from the country where I come from. I asked her what had happened to me on the stage because I had sobered up, and she told me about Jesus who died on the cross for the forgiveness of my sins. She said that my sins were gone because He loved me that much. She said he had sent back the Holy Spirit to give us power to live the Christian life and that was the language I had been speaking while on the floor. Then she told me that God’s power had touched me personally and that was why I fell down’!”

God had supernaturally given me a language which I did not know with which to converse with this man so that he would know about the plan of salvation and exactly what had happened to him! Glory!

This again was God preparing us for future activities of the Spirit world into which he is taking the Body of Christ at an ever-increasing rate!

At the Teen Challenge Farm in Rehrersburg, Pennsylvania, Charles gave a message in tongues and I interpreted it. He said as this message came forth from his spirit that it was the most beautiful language he had ever heard. In his natural mind he was thinking, “God, this is so unusual and I am pronouncing words that are so different; I wonder what this is?”

The message was rather lengthy and so was my interpretation. We are blessed to see God using these gifts often through us in our meetings, and generally the interpretation comes as though thoughts are coming into our minds, but we can clearly distinguish our thoughts from God’s.

We didn’t realize what an unusual experience we were having until the next night a retired Dutch school teacher who was a language expert came to us before the meeting and said, “Charles, that was the most beautiful thing I have ever heard as you gave the message in tongues last night. You were speaking in perfect high German, even using the accent of a German doing the speaking with the perfect diction and pronunciation. It was so perfect, but then Frances gave not only the interpretation, but an actual translation of every word in perfect English!”

Neither of us know any German other than “Gesundheit!” and that’s not very high German! Again God was opening our spirits in preparation for something more.

We were ministering during an evening service at the PTL Club Barn and Charles was ministering the baptism with the Holy Spirit to a group of about 150 people while I was laying hands on the sick. When we instruct Christians on how to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, we illustrate by speaking in tongues so they will have heard someone actually speak in the spirit language.

I Corinthians 14:2 says, “For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.”

Charles was talking to God with his spirit and when he finished he looked intently at one young lady in the group and thought he was illustrating speaking in tongues again. It was just a short sentence.

When they had all received the baptism with the Holy Spirit and they all spoke in tongues, the young lady came to Charles and said, “Charles, I am Jewish. It took me a long time to believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah, but I have been born again and He is my Savior. But when you were telling us how to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, doubt came into my mind like it had before I accepted Jesus, and I was about to give up the thought of receiving when you looked at me and in perfect Hebrew (Charles doesn’t know a word of Hebrew) you said, ‘Relax and it will come easily!’

As soon as Charles said that to her, she lifted her hands and began speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gave the utterance, her new language of the Spirit. God had given one of his chosen children a sign and wonder so she would believe.

“Now when the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and BEGAN TO SPEAK WITH OTHER TONGUES, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”

“Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven. And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because EVERY ONE HEARD THEM SPEAK IN HIS OWN LANGUAGE.

Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, ‘Look, are not all these who speak Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born? Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pont us and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs – WE HEAR THEM SPEAKING IN OUR OWN TONGUES THE WONDERFUL WORKS OF GOD’ “ (Acts 2:1-11).

Peter declared after this wonderful miracle of God that this was what had been spoken by the prophet Joel. We are a part of that great and mighty wind of the Holy Spirit that is still blowing full force and will continue until Jesus returns for us! Glory!

Speaking in languages we don’t know so that people who know those languages will understand and see the glory of God is happening today all over the world. We hear of many such incidents and we have spoken in perhaps eight or ten languages which we have been told were recognized: Korean, Hawaiian, an almost extinct Chinese language, Greek, Hebrew, Indian and who knows what else.

One night a Christian lady brought her non- Christian husband to one of our meetings. That night one of us gave a message in tongues and Charles interpreted it. This lady called us the next day to tell what her husband said. He asked her why we said something and then turned right around and said it again! Glory to God, he had heard an utterance of the wonderful works of God both in tongues and in English and didn’t know the difference. Hallelujah!

God is confirming in so many ways by sowing seeds as we progress in his service for the end-time harvest of souls.
