Topic text 2

At about nine o’clock in the morning the doctors in charge and ward doctors begin the daily round of the wards during which they examine all the patients. They question new patients very thoroughly asking their complaints, signs and symptoms. The doctors must be very observant and careful looking for all the visible signs and symptoms. After receiving all the subjective and objective data they shouldn’t omit the physical examination to make the exact diagnosis, the prognosis of the case and to administer a proper treatment. The Head of the Department makes the round of the wards together with other doctors on definite days or in some extraordinary cases. After the medical examination the doctors administer patients different medical procedures to confirm the diagnosis. They are taking an electrocardiogram, making blood and urine tests (analyses), making X-ray examinations, consulting other specialists if needed. If a patient is confined to bed all the procedures are carried out in the ward or he is transported on the stretcher cart (gurney). The ward doctors also fill in the list of administrations (chart) for every patient. Some patients are administered a bed regime in case of any severe heart impairment; others are allowed to walk; some must follow a strict diet to relieve a stomachache or prevent unfavorable side-effects and complications in case of stomach troubles.

All the patients should follow the prescribed treatment and recommendations to be well and alert again in no time and be discharged from the hospital as soon as possible.

All the doctors and nurses always treat patients with great attention and care. There is no doubt that such a hearty attitude of the doctors to the patients helps much in their recovery.
