Managing Director

The British Electric Company, Ltd.,

14 Nelson Place,

Glasgow 10th November 19…

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your letter of the 6th November.

We have made arrangements for a current account to be opened in the name of your company and for the two gentlemen mentioned in your letter, Mr. Stevens and Mr. Burke, to sign cheques on your behalf.

We shall be pleased to receive your remittance at your convenience.

Will you please let us know whether you wish the passbook to be sent to your head office, or to the branch office?

Yours faithfully,

John Baker,

Dear Sirs,

Our Managing Director, Mr. Smith, had an interesting conversation with your General Manager when he visited your stand at the British Industries Fair.

Mr. Smith was particularly interested in some popular-priced dining-room suites, which you were showing.

We should be glad if you would quote us a price for fifty of your suites, F.O.B. London, and let us know whether you can guarantee delivery before the end of May.

Yours faithfully,

Manager.

Dear Sirs,

We were very pleased to receive your enquiry of 15th January, for 4,000 yards of Willesden canvas.

We are sending you samples of three different weights of cloth, all of which can be supplied from stock. All these cloths can be supplied in widths of 27, 36 and 72 inches.

The prices for each width are shown on the samples, and we shall be happy to allow you a special discount of 5% for an order of 4,000 yards or more.

We do not know whether you are interested in any other types of heavy-weight canvas, but please do not hesitate to let us know if we can be of service to you in any other way.

We hope that our patterns and prices will interest you.

Yours faithfully,

Manager.

The Enquiry.

Dear Sirs,

Messrs. New Town Buildings Ltd., of Newtown, Dorset, have referred us to you and we should regard it as a great favor if you would tell us what you can about their financial standing and give us some indication of the amount of credit that can be safely extended to them.

Yours faithfully,

Manager.

The Reply:

Dear Sirs,

In answer to your letter of the 29th September we can only tell you that our knowledge of the firm in question is confined to two small transactions, which we had with them in July last.

We believe that the Company was only registered last year and has a relatively small capital, but you will, of course, be able to obtain these details from other sources.

Yours faithfully,

Manager.
