Вживається для вираження дії у розвитку, в момент мовлення. Дія почалася в найближчому минулому, продовжується в теперішньому і, можливо, закінчиться в якийсь момент в майбутньому.	Children are sleeping right now. I need an umbrella because it is raining. The students are reading for their examinations.
Часто дія має загальний характер, тобто, щось відбувається у розвитку (this week, this month, this year).	I am taking five courses this semester. She is trying to improve her English. He is writing another book this year.
Для вираження майбутньої дії, коли йдеться про особисті плани на найближче майбутнє.	We are meeting next Saturday.
