Domino Principle.
Саша: Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. This is the most colourful talk-show on TV, Domino Principle and us Helen Hunga
Катя: and Helen Isseeva.
Саша: Today we will touch upon the one of the most stirring topic: The Communication on the Internet: is it good or bad?
Катя: Let`s deal with it! Ok, as you’ve already known Today we have invited several people who are very excited to discuss this problem, some of them are against the Internet communication and some don`t see anything criminal in it.
Саша: Progress has made a big step forward. Quite recently the computer was generally used for work or games; we spent half our lives in various lines, and called up friends from other cities and countries one time a year for five minutes. Nowadays owing to the technological development, it was possible to do shopping in online stores, to make decisions on the number of administrative matters and, certainly, active communication on the Internet took place.
Катя: Social networks gain the increasing popularity and become important part of our life. Your page on "Schoolmates", "VKontakte" or on "Facebook" is the reflection of your ego. With the help of the same profiles of your friends, you learn the latest news from their lives, you listen to music, to which they listen, you watch movies which they watch. There is a fear that Internet communication will completely replace real one in the near future. Whether is it so or not? Let’s discuss it.
Саша: The first guest in our studio is Ruslan Gattarov, a representative of a centrist political party “United Russia”, who introduced the parliament passed the law about marking the age limit of TV and radio, cartoons and movies. Can you say a few words about it?
Женя: As you know it was last year when we did it. Besides the Internet black list was created. It is a register of banned sites child pornography, advocacy of drug abuse and drug production instructions, suicide advocacy, or any information which have been prohibited for distribution in Russia by court decision. These were our first steps to shield our children from hostile reality. Now we want to go further.
There is a growing amount of empirical data support that the information highway in social networks contains messages, persuading children to commit suicide. That’s why as a man familiar with internet-society and a father, I proposed to forbid children under 13 to register in social networks without permission of their parents. This is practiced in the USA and Europe and I’m deeply sure that we should learn from them. Thus such social networks as Facebook and Google plus don’t allow children under 13 to register in them.
Катя: But nowadays in the world of computer technology children nearly from the very earliest age, figuratively speaking, register in social networking websites. What will be with children under 13? Will they be outboard? I suppose you are aware of what will have been then.
Женя: Surely, they won’t be outboard. Of course, the situation when a child of 10 years old sees that he can’t use a social network yet and waits for 3 years is utopia. That’s why my proposal is to use passport information for registration in social networks. To my mind such measures can also help to tackle distribution of child pornography and other harmful information. If Russian social networks can’t regulate the age of the users themselves than special body should be created will keep track of children’s account and delete them.
Катя: In your opinion, from whom you will meet with approval? With whom, so to speak, you will sail in the same boat?
Женя: We still can’t reach out to all. Those who are interested only in money of course will be against this idea, but those who are concerned about our children, their future and their psychic health will support us.
Катя: Thank you Mr. Gattarov. Well, now we’d like to discuss the topic with an actor, director, producer, the Chairman of the Union of Cinematographers – Nikita Sergeevich Mikhalkov. Good afternoon, Nikita Sergeevich. You’re famous for your hostility to different social networks as a medium of destruction of face-to-face communication. What can you say about it?
Сергей: What we have today: we live in the world of information. The information highway came down in torrents washing away the rests of morality, spirituality and even of kindness, no matter how banally it sounds. This highway has touched everybody. This is the weapon of mass destruction. Everybody feels it but, unfortunately, nobody admits its power. We permanently hear about different products, services, facts, histories on TV, read about them on the Internet. In each TV channel there are programmes which accentuate our mind on things which neither me nor you have something in common. Today’s people are quite clever and well-educated. However the majority’s views of history, economics, politics are wrong. And, as you can guess, informational field dictates its conditions.
Саша: Nikita Sergeevich, we see your attitude to high technologies, but let’s be more to the topic of our today’s discussion. Do you see any advantages of using social networks? Or is it a “degrader” of interaction between people, to your mind?
Сергей: Yes, yes, yes, you’ve found the most suitable word – “degrader”. What I was speaking above is nothing compared with the reality. People today regard social networks as their second home. Every day the enter this home and do something. And people can’t leave this home because familiar people, whom they can’t leave, live also at this home; at this home they can rest listening to music or watching a film. Reality is not for them anymore! People are so naïve that they think social networks is really cool as young people say today. There is a widespread but erroneous belief that social networks are a way to find one’s old friends, classmates, university friends whom they haven’t seen for a long time. But I’d like to ask a question: is the real world worse than the virtual one? Wouldn’t it be easy to gather together and to communicate face-to-face? There would another feeling!!! But people are so addicted to social networks that such an idea never occurs to their minds. They live in their own world, the virtual world. They waste their life! They think they’ll have the second life in the future. It wouldn’t be so.
