Depositary and languages

1. The Secretary-General of the United Nations is designated depositary of this Convention.

2. The original of this Convention, of which the Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish texts are equally authentic, shall be deposited with the Secretary-General of the United Nations.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the undersigned plenipotentiaries, being duly authorized thereto by their respective Governments, have signed this Convention.

[1] Private military activities and private security activities significantly differ from each other. In this concern they are differentiated in the legislation of states. At that, in many countries private military activities are legitimate whereas private security activities are not only legitimate but also legislatively regulated (in Russia and other CIS states). In other countries these two types of activities are differentiated neither on legislative nor on practical level (the USA, the UK). In this view it seems appropriate to distinguish between two terms in order to avoid possible differences during the discussions on behalf of the states which ban private military activities in their legislation.

[2] Private military activities and private security activities significantly differ from each other. In this concern they are differentiated in the legislation of states. At that, in many countries private military activities are legitimate whereas private security activities are not only legitimate but also legislatively regulated (in Russia and other CIS states). In other countries these two types of activities are differentiated neither on legislative nor on practical level (the USA, the UK).
