The East End part

The East End is the poorest district of London. There are a lot of factories, workshops and docks here. The streets are narrow, the buildings are unimpressive. The East End is densely populated by working class families.

History of Kaz NMU.

Kazakh State Medical Institute was founded on 20^th of April in 1931 and later it was renamed to Almaty State Medical Institute (ASMI). In 2001 Kazakh State Medical University was awarded the high national status of the university.

The first rector of the Institute was Sanzhar Dzhafarovich Asfendiyarov who was a graduate of St. Petersburg Medical Military Academy. He was an outstanding statesman, prominent scientist and talented organizer. He made a great contribution to the formation of medicine in our country.

KazNMU at present

Now our university is called as Kazakh National Medical University named after S.D. Asfendiyarov. Nowadays rector is Professor Akanov Aikan Akanovich. Our University takes the 1^st place among the higher medical institutions of the country. The main task of the university is to prepare highly qualified doctors. There are s faculties at the university: General Medicine, stomatological, pharmaceutical, faculty of public health, postgraduate faculty, faculty of foreign students.

Teachers and students

There are more than 1700 teachers at our university. More than 11000 students study at the university. Alongside with students of Kazakhstan foreign students from India, Afghanistan, Tadzhikistan, Uzbekistan and other countries are taught at the university. Our students take an active part in different types of activities, such as scientific conferences, sport competitions, debates, concerts and other contests.

Admission to the university.

In order to enter the Medical University young people have to take entrance examination on Kazakh, Russian, Maths, History of Kazakhstan and Biology (or Chemistry). Only those who successfully pass entrance testing are admitted free of charge. In other cases education is given on the commercial basis.

The importance of knowledge

Medical students study many theoretical and special subjects. They have practical training. They do the work of nurses and assistant doctors. It helps them to gain much knowledge of medicine.
