The "Orloff" is a genuine, historic Hydra mansion, turned to an A' class hotel. It has all characteristics of the traditional architecture of Hydra: thick walls, hidden interior courtyards and a beautiful garden. The house was built by the admiral G.Orloff in 1798, and has been lovingly restored to Hydra's finest and most characterisitic hotel.

Hydra, at the time, was one of the rare territories with relative freedom, and was called "little England" thanks to its powerful fleet and great wealth.

G. Orloff fell in love with the island and decided to built a house on it. This is up to this day, the Orloff House, a hospitable space for fun and relaxation.

Situated in the heart of Hydra town

The Orloff stands on an advantageous site, very central and yet very calm. It has easy access to everything: the port, the closest swimming spot "Spilia", the historic Hydra pharmacy and hospital, the metropolitan church, a monastery built in the 1600s, as well as the telephone company and the traditional Market Place.

At two minutes walk from the Orloff one is at the unique Hydra port, to taste its vivacity at all times of the day, the restaurants and bars and night life. If one prefers to stay at the Orloff one can enjoy a relaxed yet joyful and animated atmosphere.

The Orloff is a small exclusive hotel with only 9 rooms each with a character of its own. While the old architectural splendor has been left untouched all modern comforts are provided. Interiors are authentic and unpretentious. It is the outcome of a harmonious blend of old family elements with soft updating touches, always in respect to tradition and authenticity. Authenticity is alive everywhere: from architectural elements, to embroidered white linen curtains. Antique pieces have been carefully restored by traditional kraftsmen, while interiors are completed with lamps, mirrors, carpets which give a touch of cozy elegance.

FACILITIES

All rooms have air conditioning, heating, private baths, direct dial phones, mini bars, and colour t.v. All rooms are double, while four of the rooms are superior double, which are larger rooms with sitting area.

Elegant yet simple, the Orloff does not give out the air of a dusty museum. It is a space in which one can live and unwind, surrounded by people who care and are ready to respond to one's needs.

At the Orloff House we are happy to be of service to our clients: - give transfers to and from the port

- book restaurants, boat rides etc.,

- call a hairdresser for an appointment,

- call a massage specialist

- call a doctor if needed, etc.

The Orloff House is representative of the typical noble houses of Hydra,

In the 18th century. The architecture is a solid structure with high ceilings,

thick walls, big fortified windows.

The main Reception Hall has an entire wall full of windows to let in the mediterranean light.

A unique element is the ancient arcade on the ground floor.

The atmosphere of the house is very relaxed with many inner courtyards and a secluded garden with mediterranean plants, secured by high white -washed walls.

The Orloff is more than a hotel:

it is a life style: it will appeal to those who seek calm, relaxation, contemplation. Those who whish to unwind form urban stress, and be replenished with energy.

The Breakfast area opens up to the garden where a rich, homemade buffet breakfast is served under the sounds of carefully selected music. For the discerning music lovers, rare classical executions are played from a collection of more than 4.000 records.

Artists and people who do creative work come here to start fresh on new inspirtation. To mention a few: Jaqueline Thunfors, Jean Claude Quilici, Georges Damin, Beth Ames Schwarts, Jaqueline Decoux, the cartoonist Gisis Papageorgiou all painters, Tricia Guild of Designer's Guild and many others.

Many celebrities have come to the Orloff for a longer or shorter brake. Jean Paul Guerlain, the Kennedy family, Demis Roussos, princess Metternich, Chryssa the sculptress, politicians, ambassadors and businessmen.

Some have chosen the Orloff garden as the place to be married! Some have even come from Sweden bringing the priest with them!

A fragrance was first created in 1989, to capture the atmosphere of the "Orloff" house and to establish a link with all those who wanted to keep a souvenir of their trip to the island and the hotel. The Orloff perfume is a vetyver - hesperide fragrance, very fresh and natural suitable to both men and women. The Orloff perfume has made a carreer in the Greek Duty Free Shops, and Olympic Airways, as the first perfume of Greece.

Recently the Eau de Neree was born, a cool Aegean fresh, scent.

The Orloff is the sole hotel creating and distributing its own perfumes, based on the plants of its garden, emanating the freshness of the Greek Islands.

"Though it is a two-hundred years old house, it does not show it. This private mansion turned into a hotel, was built by a Russian diplomat. White washed walls with sea-blue windows, the Orloff has ten rooms furnished with rare antiques, today even in traditional Greek houses. The garden is magnificent, full of jasmine and aromatic herbs, forming the basis for the creation of a fragrance named Orloff."

“We stayed at the Hotel Orloff, a nineteenth-century mansion near the harbour. The Orloff, with its period furniture, white-washed tranquillity and walled, shaded garden, had the kind of ambience that instantly soothes the spirit. The garden was overrun by honeysuckle, jasmine and bougainvillaea, and at dusk the scent was heady enough to make one swoon."

"The best relation between price and quality in Hydra is without any doubt offered by the Orloff hotel. This ancient, white mansion, we were told that it was built by a former lover of Catherine II of Russia, in exil, - was he going away from the woman or from the country?-, is a true oasis of peace. Walls are thick, granting a nice coolness and protecting from the noise of the outside. Furniture are antiques or excellent copies and emanate a pleasant scent of furniture-polish. Beds are excellent, tight. Morning is a happy hour here on Hydra. The light is still low and level, heat is just starting to act upon the plants and flowers, creating a little symphony of perfumes in the Orloff garden. Honeysuckle, jasmine, citrus flowers participate into the breakfast: a buffet of yogurt, fruits, boiled eggs, cheese, fresh sesame breads, a bit of everything that can be found in the Hydra marketplace. Such an environment, allows the senses to smoothly wake up."

The most beautiful island of the Saronic Gulf, Hydra is very close to Athens, only one hour from Piraeus by hydrofoil. Many connections during the day and almost one every hour, in the summer, make it an accessible getaway.

Cars are not allowed and this is the reason for the deep sense of relaxation and high quality of life on the island.

Hydra has remained unspoiled, over the years. It does not have many tourist beaches, but its waters are crystal clear and one can enjoy the secluded, emerald creaks, with few or no others around, by renting boats for excursions.

Cultural programs take place every summer, with art exhibits, concerts, an international marionette festival, the Miaoulia: independence day celebrations in late June etc. Places to see:

- The Merchant Marine School

- The School of Fine Arts

- The Hydra Museum

Soon two splendid houses will be open to the public as museums.

Hydra has mountains and hills for hiking and climbing and many monasteries to visit for those who love hiking. As one climbs up, the view becomes breathtaking, to all ends of the horizon.

A wide range of restaurants, from typical tavernas with Greek specialties, to more sophisticated ones, cover a variety of tastes and occasions, while the port cafes offer a day and night live theater scene, for the social life of the island.

The Hydra experience cannot be described, It can only be lived!
