And what is your idea …? Do you agree with me?

And what about you?

1. What is more convenient: to travel by plane or by train?

2. Do you take a lot of luggage with you?

3. Is it convenient to use left-luggage room? Do you use it often?

4. What seat do you prefer?

5. Will you agree to change your seat if you are asked to?

6. Where is the nearest ticket office?

7. Is it difficult sometimes to get a ticket?

8. Have you ever had to change planes? When was it?

9. Do you come to the airport beforehand or just a few minutes before the plane is taking off?

10. Have you ever been late for your plane?

9. Imagine that you are meeting the representative of the English company. At the airport you see the man whose appearance is the same as in the description of the man you have to meet. Do the following actions:

a) обратитесь к нему на английском языке и узнайте, тот ли это человек, который Вам нужен;

b) представьте себя (назовите свое имя и фамилию, а также компанию, которую Вы представляете);

c) извинитесь за свое опоздание;

d) спросите, как он долетел;

e) предложите ему пройти к Вашей машине;

f) спросите его, не помочь ли ему донести его чемодан;

g) представьте себе, что этот человек оказался не тем человеком, который Вам нужен. Попросите у этого человека прощение за беспокойство.

10. Listen to the airport announcements and complete the chart.

FLIGHT NUMBER DESTINATION GATE NUMBER REMARK
B A       GENEVA   LAST CALL
S K           LAST CALL
A F           DELAYED 30 mins
L H           NOW BOARDING
V S           NOW BOARDING

11. Work in groups.

One of you is the employee of the ground staff. Ask the passenger to show his / her passport, ask about luggage, hand luggage, give him / her the boarding card. The others are passengers. Answer the employee’s questions.

12. Work in pairs.

A) You’re at the airport’s lost luggage counter. One of you is a passenger who’s lost his / her things on a flight. Ask to help you. The other is an employee of the lost luggage counter at the airport. Listen to the passenger. Ask as more information about his / her flight and luggage as you can to help him / her.

B) You have lost something on a flight. Make notes about the following things:

1. Your flight number and where you have flown from (e.g. BA 528 from Manchester).

2. What you have lost (e.g. suitcase / rucksack / bag) and the colour and size.

3. Contents of your luggage (e.g. clothes / books).

13. Let’s revise.

A) Where do you go first when you travel by plane? Put these places in the correct order. Write 1 – 5 on the left.

___ passport control ___

___ baggage reclaim ___

_ 1 _ the check in desk ___

___ the plane ___

___ the arrival hall ___

___ the departure lounge _ a _

B) Read and listen to the conversations. Where are they? Write the letter next to the correct place on the right in Part A.

A.

B: Was it gate 4 or 14?

A: I couldn’t hear. I think it was 4.

B: Ssssh! There it is again. It is gate 4.

A: OK. Come on!
