Тема: My pen friends.

Тип уроку: Урок ознайомлення з новими лексичними навичками.

Мета:

навчальна: Ознайомити учнів з новою лексикою, закріпити теорію практичними знаннями. Навчити використовувати нову лексику в мовленні. Вміти будувати власні висловлювання. Вдосконалювати уміння читання та говоріння, вміти складати власні листи.

Розвиваюча: Розвивати навички діалогічного та монологічного мовлення. Розвивати мовну здогадку, уяву, процеси мислення, фонетичний слух, слухову та зорову пам’ять, уміння читання, аудіювання, письма та говоріння. Лексичні та граматичні навички.

Виховна: Виховувати комунікативні якості учнів, виховувати цікавість до вивчення англійської мови, виховувати бажання до спілкування не тільки рідною, але й іноземною мовою, проявляти ініціативу до пошуку друзів по листуванню.

Обладнання: комп’ютер,телевізор, презентація,малюнки,роздатковий матеріал, аудіо-, відео- записи,робочі зошити,підручники.

Хід уроку

I. Org. moment. Greetings

T: Hello, my dear pupils! Glad to see you! Take your seats. How are you today? I hope everything is allright. Ok, let’s begin our work.

Today we start a new theme, that called “Pen- friends”. Well, today we have an interesting lesson as we are going to learn the types? Structure ans styles of personal letters. But first of all let’s find out what the letter is. Are you ready? Let’s start.

А letter – is a written/printed message addressed to a person or organization.

II. Phonetic drill.

T: Look at the screen, please, you see a proverb, listen to it and then repeat after me.

“Making a million friends is not a miracle, the miracle is to make a friend who will stand by you when millions are against you”.

T:How do you think what will be the right translation for this proverb? Make your suggestions.

III. Warming up.

T: Now, I want to know your tastes and what type of person you are. Answer some of my questions.

1) Have you ever had a pen- friend? If yes, say a few words about him/her.

2) Why is it good to have a pen-friend?

3) How often do you write letters?

4) Do you receive postcards?

5) What are you interested in?

6) Would you like to have pen-friends?

T: Good job! I see you would like to have pen-friends. Today you have a chance to find them and to write a letter to your friends.

T: Have a look at the screen, now we are going to get acquainted with new words, some of them may be familiar to you.

Translation the sentences and making own

T: Now your turn to work with new lexical material. Try to translate some sentences or make your own.

1) Ти маєш іноземного друга по листуванню?

2) Я часто отримую листівки від друзів.

3) Джек дуже впевнений в собі молодик.

4) Це була його провина, він пізно повідомив про своє відрядження.

5) Катя має дуже запальний характер.

T: Excellent! You did it very quickly and there were a couple of mistakes.

Grammar material.

T: Let’s have a look at the screen, you’ll see types of personal letters:

• a letter giving your news;

• a letter congratulating someone;

• a reply to a party invitation;

• a letter asking for suggestions/ advice;

• a thank-you letter;

• a letter of apology;

• a letter asking for/ giving advice;

• a letter asking for/ giving information; etc.

 

T: Let’s do the exercises. Name the types of the letters. You can see just the extracts but that’s enough.

How are you? I just wanted to tell you how sorry I am about what happened last Monday.

2. Dear Grandma,

Thanks SO much for the birthday present. I absolutely loved it!

3. Dear Matt,

Hi! I haven’t heard from you for ages so I thought I’d drop you a line.

4. Hi Jane!

Sorry to hear that you are not getting well with your brother. May be I can help!

T:Good job!I think it wasn’t too difficult, was it? Which pen friend is best for these people? Choose ONLY ONE pen friend for each person. Read the following information about the pen-friends.

1. Mary, 24 years old, comes from Scotland and would like to find a pen pal who comes from East Europe. She likes playing the piano and listening to jazz music. She is interested in history but does not like discussing politics.

2. Kim Lee, 19 years old, comes from Seoul, South Korea. Kim loves traveling and hopes to visit Great Britain in the future. He would like a pen pal who is interested in discussing the differences between life in Europe and life in Asia. He loves listening to pop music and playing football in his free time.

3. Pietro, 42 years old, comes from Argentina. He is a businessman and would like to find a pen pal who is also a businessperson and lives in North America. He is married with three children and likes using the Internet in his free time.

4. Helga, 31 years old, comes from Germany and speaks French, English and Russian. She would like a pen pal who is interested in exchanging ideas about language learning. She does not like using computers for learning and believes that language learning can only happen in a classroom.

5. Jennifer, 18, comes from New Orleans in the United States. She is interested in discussing the political differences between East Europe and North America. She loves riding her horse, Jackie, and listening to jazz music.

6. Alessandro, 25 years old, comes from Rome. He is interested in finding a pen pal who speaks different languages and can exchange ideas on using the computer for learning purposes. He likes playing tennis and football in his free time.

 

 Petr Vladovic, 18, comes from Serbia and would like a pen pal who is interested in discussing the current political situation in the world. He likes jazz and playing tennis in his free time.

The best pen pal for Petr would be _____

 Tom Synder, 36, is a businessman from Toronto, Canada. He would like to find a pen pal from a different continent to discuss business practices and differences between his country and others.

The best pen pal for Tom would be _____

 Olga, 32 years old, comes from Moscow, Russia. She is a historian and would like to find a pen pal who is interested in discussing the history of Russia before the communist regime. She is not interested in comparing different political systems.

The best pen pal for Olga would be _____

 Jack, 27, is from London. His favorite pastime is learning languages. He goes to evening German and French classes and uses his computer to improve his German and French by visiting Internet sites.

 Stuart, 22, is from Dublin. He loves traveling and wants to visit Asia in the near future and would like a pen pal who likes playing football and who can tell him about the differences between life in Asia and Ireland.
