What’s new this year

Dear friends, we are pleased to inform you that the qualifying run of the Auteur Cinema Week "Afishka - 3" is declared open.

Our cinema week consists of short films made by young creators (not only professional, but also other true fans of film art). “Afishka” is now an international festival: Authors from Russia, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Israel, the USA, Taiwan, Belarus and other countries joined us.

The shows are on a non-competitive basis, and with them we intend to raise the importance of short auteur film in our country. These short films include auteur experiments, research, topical issues of our time, and sometimes they are building blocks for creating professional feature films.

All the films shown during “Afishka” week will be given to the contest jury of the Tashkent International Film Forum "Golden Cheetah".

A brief history of the “Afishka” Auteur Cinema Week

Two festivals were already held. Director Shavkat Yuldashev, the creator of the “Afishka week”, and his team, friends and colleagues - Andrew Tsoi, Daniel Musaelov, Masha Lukyanova, Olga Lobanova, Umar Alimov, Shukhrat Yuldashev, Murad Sadykov, Dayana Murtazina, Timur Sklyarov, Daniel Bialski, Sasha Alexandrov, Timur Sharafutdinov, Oleg and Katya Derevyanko and many other talented people - worked hard to make “Afishka” week interesting and successful.

Every day the event was attended by a fairly wide audience. Our guests were: Akbar Hakimov - Doctor of Arts, academician, and general director of the 1st Film Forum of Uzbekistan "Golden Cheetah"; the actor Nigmat Alimov - People's Artist of Uzbekistan; filmmaker Ayub Shahobeddinov; film critic Nigora Karimova; theatre experts Dinara Yuldasheva and Tahir Yuldashev; Boris Babaev - prominent journalist and creator of the kultura.uz website; animator Dmitry Vlasov; actor Bernar Nazarmuhamedov, and many others.

It should be noted that the public had the opportunity to enjoy not only film art. There was live music between and after the shows performed by different Tashkent musicians, and people could enjoy photo and art exhibitions in the same café.

During “Afishka” week 2012, Tashkent musicians and music bands “Très Jolie”, “TS Band”, “Origami wings”, "Ъ", "Tupratikons", Alex Polyakov (“Metod Tyka”), Musakova Maryam and her friends, a group led by Tashkent Conservatory Jazz teacher Lola Abidova, performed.

All of the guests of the festival “Afishka” could express their opinions about the project or the films they watched by using a camera located at the entrance.

In 2012, the big surprise for the authors, visitors and guests was the “Lumiere minute” project created by Shavkat Yuldashev and Timur Sharafutdinov. Any spectator or participant could take part in the project: The participants just had to make one minute film during the “Afishka” week. All the films were shown on the closing day of the festival.

What’s new this year

We are planning to make some additions to the festival program. During the entire week, master classes of professional artists will be held. One, for example, will include the presentation of short films made by well-known directors from Uzbekfilm, showing their previously unseen first steps in film arts.

At the end of each evening, guests will enjoy professional short films by famous foreign directors.

Above all, we are pleased to add documentary films to the festival.

In addition to your contributions, please send us your suggestions! We are interested in your ideas, and we want to make “Afishka” interesting for everyone.

“Afishka” Auteur Cinema Week requirements:

The Criteria for Selection:

Short films: 1 - 25 minutes.

Documentary films: up to 15 minutes.

Animated films: up to 15 minutes.

Age of the participant: 18 +

Authors should send the film itself and a video-presentation (no more than 1 minute) to introduce themselves and their movie.
