DIALOGUE

You are at a party. Here you meet a foreigner. Talk to him/her.

Ø ask for some personal information (country, hometown, occupation, age, etc)

Ø ask about the purpose of coming to Rostov and the length of stay

Ø talk about his/her first impressions of Russia and Rostov

Ø ask about his/her interests and spare time activities

Ø suggest another meeting

Ø arrange the time and place

DIALOGUE

You are on a Student Exchange Programme in Britain. It is the Fresher’s Week party. Talk to one of the students there.

Ø Get acquainted

Ø Ask what university he/she studies at

Ø Find out about his/her course of study

Ø Share your impressions of the university and campus

Ø Ask about his/her interests and favourite spare time activities

You have just become a university student of SFU. At the matriculation ceremony you meet an international student who is studying at this university. Talk to him/her.

Ø Say where and how long you have been studying it

Ø Explain your reasons to study it

Ø Ask about his/her experience in learning a foreign language

Ø Ask for advice on how you can improve your knowledge of the English language

DIALOGUE

Recently you have got acquainted with a British student who studies Russian in Rostov. You meet him/her at the university library. Talk to him/her.

Ø Greet him/her

Ø Ask about his/her progress in learning the Russian language

Ø Ask where and how long he/she has been studying it

Ø Ask about his/her reasons for studying the Russian language

Ø Speak about your experience in learning English

Ø Give advice on how he/she can improve his/her language skills

You are in the university cafeteria. You talk to a British student who is studying Russian at South Federal University.

Ø Greet the student and ask him/her how long he/she has been learning Russian

Ø Ask if he/she finds learning Russian difficult

Ø Express your opinion of learning English

Ø Say what ways of learning a foreign language you find effective

Ø Ask him/her what recommendations in language learning he/she finds helpful

Ø Suggest keeping in touch with him/her via e-mail to make your language learning more effective

 

DIALOGUE

You are in the UK on a holiday for a month. You would like to improve your English. Talk to the receptionist of the language school you would like to attend.

Ø Ask about the type and length of courses the school offers

Ø Say why you need English and what language skills you would like to focus on

Ø Ask about the price of the course

Ø Ask about the facilities the school has

Ø Say if you need help with accommodation and specify the type

Ø Agree to take the course and ask about the course starting date

Ø Give your personal information
