9. Life and literary activity of Thomas Paine.

10. Development of 18^th Century American Poetry

4. Washington Irving as a founder of American Romantic Novelette:

a) The Alhambra — influence of Oriental Philosophy. Romantic characters and their inner world;

b) “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” — poetic rhythm and colouring, combination of fiction and reality.

5. Native aspects in J.F. Cooper’s creativity:

a) Pentalogy about Leather Stocking. Connection between the novels;

b) Natty Bumpoo — the first American romantic. Crash of old and new worlds, coming of civilization;

c) Indian Theme — Cooper’s understanding of this problem. Indian characters in pentalogy: positive and negative.

6. Peculiarities of Romantic poetry. W.C. Bryant.
