Youth Leadership Programme

September 2015, Bournemouth UK

APPLICATION FORM

The Liberal Democrats are offering an exciting opportunity for 8 youth delegates from liberal political parties in developing democracies to come to the UK and take part in a study session on leadership.

Selected candidates will have the chance to meet with other young liberals from around the world, to learn from each other’s experiences as young politicians and activists, and share strategies to further the development of young leaders within their parties and to reach out to under-represented groups. We particularly welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds including LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender), women, ethnic, racial and religious minorities, etc.

Participants will attend the Liberal Democrat Conference in Bournemouth, where representatives from the Liberal Democrats’ Candidate Leadership Programme and key international liberal youth organisations will deliver high level trainings. Study sessions will include ‘ how to succeed as a parliamentary candidate’, ‘ media training for candidates and potential candidates’, ‘ leadership skills’ and ‘ youth activist training ’.

Through comparing and contrasting experiences as young candidates, as well as strategies for supporting young candidates from diverse backgrounds, you will gain an insight into a wide range of methods for increasing youth participation and representation, which can be adapted to meet your specific needs and conditions.

When? Delegates will be in the UK from 19 - 23 September 2015.

Costs? All expenses, including food, accommodation, and travel will be covered through the Westminster Foundation for Democracy and UK Liberal Democrats.
