Doha, Qatar, December 10 to 13, 2011

Dear YFJ Member Organizations,

the Fourth Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations will take place in Doha, Qatar, from December 10 to December 13, 2011.

This forum will bring together over 2,000 participants, including political and corporate leaders, civil society activists, youth organizations, faith communities, research centers, foundations and journalists, will come together to agree on joint actions to improve relations across cultures, combat prejudice and build lasting peace.

The forum discussions are organized around 3 themes:

· Theme 1: How Does Cultural Diversity Matter to Development? The missing link

· Theme 2: Promoting Trust and Tolerance to Advance Development Goals

· Theme 3: New Strategies for Intercultural Dialogue, Understanding & Cooperation

Youth at the Doha Forum

A total of 200 youth from all over the world will take part in the 4^th UNAOC Forum in Doha. The main objective of the Forum is to provide a platform for leaders such as heads of states, members of the media, representatives from NGOs, as well as multilateral, civil society and youth organizations, etc. to meet and have constructive discussions on the priorities of the UNAOC, i.e. intercultural dialogue and understanding and promotion of peaceful coexistence.

Youth will come to Doha to contribute their own unique experience, expertise and thoughts on the various themes to be discussed during the Fourth UNAOC Forum. To facilitate youth participation in the Forum itself, the following events are offered:

· A Youth Walk on the morning of December 10 (TBC): With a view to allow young participants to fully understand and appreciate the Qatari culture, a walk in a unique neighborhood of Doha is offered.

· A Youth Event on the afternoon of December 10: In order to support young participants’ mobilization and their development of key messages for the Forum, a Youth Event will be on the day right before the Forum. The Youth Event will include deliberations on the overarching themes addressed during the Forum plenaries and the drafting of key youth recommendations.

· Youth participation in the Forum on December 11, 12 and 13: After the Youth Event, participants will take part in the Forum along all other participants in the Forum.

Additional details about other opportunities for youth (currently being developed and still unconfirmed) will be shared with the 200 selected youth.

Participants from YFJ Member Organizations

The European Youth Forum can select 15 representatives from its Member Organizations.

In order to submit an application, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:

1. Must be between 18 and 35 years old

2. Must be able to communicate effectively in English (oral and written form)

3. Must have a current valid passport that will also be valid until at least June 2012

4. Must have the means to obtain and pay for any required exit or transit visa needed to reach Qatar and some expenses such as transportation to home airport, local phone calls, etc.

5. Must be available to be in Doha from December 10 to 13, incl. as well as possibly travel days on December 9 and December 14 (TBC).

Financial Support

This support is as follows (TBC upon selection of youth):

· Two-way international airfare between Doha and the international airport closest to your city of residence.

· Accommodations during the Forum.

· Meals during the Forum.

· Technical assistance to obtain an electronic visa to Doha (the cost of the visa will be waived).

This support does not include the following expenses:

· Technical nor financial assistance to obtain and pay for any exit or transit visa needed for them to reach Doha.

· All additional expenses incurrent before or during travel (e.g. taxi to reach airport in city of departure, meals while in transit, etc.) or while in Doha (e.g. phone calls, souvenirs, etc.).
