Overall the research answered the questions and the aim was achieved. The data from the unstructured interviews confirmed both my own experience and the outcomes of the background research. The conclusions can therefore be seen as strong and held with some confidence. The results are likely to be valid and a true reflection of the reasons of these people for migrating.

However the sample size for the interviews was quite small and drawn mainly from family friends and relations who were contacted through parental relationships. This means that there is a strong chance that there is some bias in the sample and that the people participating share similar views because they know one another rather than because of shared experience with the majority of migrants. The small number (6) is also cause for concern. The chance of the sample being unrepresentative is very high with such a small sample. It is therefore not possible to generalise to all migrants in the country and in the world.

The fact that I could not get permission to interview people in another country was disappointing and contributes to the lack of evidence and a firm foundation for generalising from this research.

The unstructured interviews were very interesting to conduct and all of the participants were very open about their motivations and experience of migration. The material gathered on the positive and negative aspects of migration in practice was not really used as it was not related directly to the research questions. In the future it may be better to keep the focus of discussion very close to the main aims; however some of the discussion was valuable in getting more depth about the reasons and could form the basis for future analysis.
