I. Name the Degrees of Comparison of the following adjectives and adverbs.

attentive, beautiful, good, cheap, clean, cloudy, convenient, cool, cold, dangerous, different, dirty, dull, exact; clearly, calmly, carefully, certainly, correctly, easily

 

II. Translate into Russian.

a) my eldest son, the furthest projects, the least efficient football-player, the nearest wood, the strongest storm, one of the most famous pianists, the farthest corner, the finest flower, the closest friend, the most frosty day;

b) to go faster, to read quicker, to look more handsome, to be less expensive, to invite more insistently, to speak more fluently, to sing louder, to know more precisely, to live longer, to become more lovely

 

III. Translate into English.

а) ближайшая остановка автобуса, старший брат, малейшая ошибка, большинство дней, самая узкая дорога, красивейшая природа, самая приятная погода, обыкновеннейший человек, наименее удачная прогулка, наименее возможный вариант

б) Брат старше меня, а сестра моложе. Сестра Аня – самая младшая в нашей семье. Автобусная остановка ближе к нашему дому, чем трамвайная. В комнате менее жарко, чем на улице. В воскресенье погода была более солнечной, чем в понедельник.

 

IV. Insert the adjective or adverb in the correct form.

1. In winter the days are (short) than the days in summer. 2. Winter in the North is (cold) than winter in the South. 3. The climate of Kiev is (good) than the climate of Moscow. 4. The weather in autumn is much (bad) than the weather in spring. 5. In spring everybody feels (young) and (strong). 6. Autumn is (rainy) than summer. 7. It is (difficult) to wake up in winter than in summer because it is (dark) outside. 8. Children wait for summer (impatiently) than adults. 9. Winter in London is (foggy) than in Paris. 10. The roads sometimes are (slippery) in spring than in winter. 11. What is the (warm) month in your town? 12. I think we have the (changeable) weather in March. 13. Which is the (rainy) season of the year in Europe? 14. For many people August is the (pleasant) month of the year. 15. Summer is the (busy) time for those who live in the country. 16. About (bad) rainy weather English say: “It rains cats and dogs”. 17. What month is the (short)? 18. What season do you like (much) of all? 19. Where do you feel (comfortable) on a rainy autumn day? 20. What can make you the (happy) person in the world?

 

V. Read the text paying special attention to the adjectives. Retell it.
