Sometimes companies realize that they are not achieving goals or objectives effectively, that is they are not getting the results they need. In this case they have to re-plan their strategy. It can be useful to get an outsider, e.g. a management consultant, to analyze the company's performance and recommend changes to make it more efficient. The outsider can use a SWOT analysis. It means the analysis of the companies strength (S) and weaknesses (W) and also of the opportunities (0) and threats (T) that face the company.

Troubleshooting or solving problems is a necessary part of running a company. For instance, a company loses its reputation as one of the best and needs a new strategy.; The solution may be found in appointing a new Managing Director with a great number years' of experience. And a new strategy will include finding new models (this is a Model Agency); generating the awareness of encouraging girls from other agencies to switch to this Model Agency (MA) and of course cutting costs to make the agency more profitable. So the result is that the,. agency is attracting more clients and doing well financially.

If we make the SWOT analysis of this agency we can get the following: Strength: New managing director has a lot of experience.

Weakness: MA has no longer the reputation for being fashionable or forward-looking. MA has models who are not earning money for the company. Models switch to good agencies quickly.

Opportunities: MA is looking for new models. Managing Director has ability to make good financial decisions. Profits can be excellent for a successful company.

Threats: Model Agency business is very competitive. A lot of other agencies are looking for good models too. All model agencies are looking for new models.

One of the most important thing in troubleshooting is customer's opinions or customer's questionnaires. For example, women are buying more cars nowadays, but manufactures and car dealers don't think about female customers at all, they don't take women seriously.

They don't seem to listen to what women say they want. Questionnaires show that women consider that car phones and children's car seats should be available as standard. They also think that car adverts should be change. They suppose to find lots of information in adverts.

The adverts ought to tell them about things like petrol consumption and safety features. And they hate, for example, adverts showing fast cars in exotic location.

So if I want to deal efficiently with the problems and if I were a manager I wouldn't avoid problem, I would deal with it. I wouldn't blame people, I would look for solutions, I would look at the problem as an opportunity - to learn something or to achieve something. I would identify the real cause of the problem and work to find a solution to this.

As you see, troubleshooting or solving problems is very important in business. Business is, extremely competitive and its competitive in terms of time and in terms of money. There exists some typical areas which are typical trouble spots. Starting at the very beginning of a project quite often people don't plan effectively. You can never plan early enough/especially in a large and.complex project. Part of that planning involves that everybody on the project understands his or her role and that the objectives of the project are regularly reviewed so that everybody understands how the project is going to meet the needs of the market and whether it is still relevant. It's very important that a project team communicates well within itself and also to people outside the team. You should try to have a democratic spirit in a project allowing people to speak openly, to ask questions and to feel that they own the project as much as the managers or the clients may do.

One of the most important strategy to avoid problems is to be realistic. You should be realistic about the number of people working on the project, the cost and the size of the project. When you put pressure on a project because you don't have enough people working on it or you are spending too much money, you create problems. Pressure means problems. So to avoid problems you should reduce the pressure.
